Setting Presets

What is the easiest way to set a favorite preset in the idrive system?

Not sure I understand? Basically you just highlight the desired iDrive menu selection with your wheel and then press and hold down the selected preset button until it acknowledges the save.

I had no problem doing that. Problem is only 3 favorites show up on the HUD. Is that all it can display? Using the thumbwheel on the steering wheel, the HUD only displays 3 presets and can only scroll through the 3.

So you're talking like radio presets? Your HUD should scroll through all your saved presets and not just 3. I have 39 of 40 presets saved and using the thumbwheel on the streering wheel I am able to scroll through all of them. It can only show 3 at a time.

Seems to be working now. I probably was doing something wrong.

Wow that’s great news. I have enquired here a couple of times about this. How to you select more presets than your physical preset buttons?

You are talking about two different things here.
One is radio presets, and you can have many of them (up to 40).
The other is the programmable memory buttons (7).

You may assign a radio preset to one of the programmable memory buttons, but you don't have to - you can scroll and select preset stations from menu ("Media/Radio" -> "Presets"). Those memory buttons can instead be programmed as a short cut to other iDrive functions.

Very cool. No need to waste those hard buttons for the radio. Thanks, still learning something new every day here.

I actually brought the manual into the house today(!!), but I thought I'd throw out a quick question. I see all the sat radio stations on the head up, just numbers. When you set your 40 odd presets do they pull the call letters or station names or is there a way to edit how the preset's nomenclature is displayed (or both)?

It should show the name of the station however if you look at it right after you start your car, it might take a little time before the names show up. You can't change the name of the preset station, but indeed it should be showing up in the HUD.
