Icebreakers
I have a team workshop coming up in a few weeks. Around 30 of us from all over Europe are meeting to discuss a new project.
Has anyone done any good /fun icebreakers to get the introductions out the way. Anything is better than the creeping death of stand up, name, position, experience, sit down. Also looking for any short mixers, games or tasks to get people motivated after lunch. Thanks |

I've always found it's best to be up front and be the person to break the ice as a welcome. "We all know these things can be odd for the first 5 minutes, but let's just remember we could all be stuck at our desks pretending to work."
That sort of thing. I speak with experience as I chair a lot of round-tables in my job. Another cool way is to get people to introduce the person to the left or right of them. Means people have to chat to their colleague first, and it's less embarrassing to say someone else's wanky job title than it is your own. |

From all over Europe you say..
How about you make the Europeans come up with 5 benefits of Brexit and the UK guys come up with 5 benefits of the EU? |

five teams of six, packet of spaghetti each, sellotape and some sort of set weight. 30 minutes to build highest tower to support weight for 30 seconds. must be floor standing and not attached to ceiling etc.
points for height achieved, team pitch, planning, management, organisation, and for using least amount of materials, elegance of design etc. take lots of pictures and possibly invite senior manager, director in for impartial judging. breaks the ice, gets people working together and gives everyone a job to do.

My mate, a Paramedic and ambulance driver, introduced himself like this at a Speed Awareness Course. Didn't go down well. Stony silence. And when the guy taking the course found out he was a "professional" driver, he really got it I the neck.
He wasn't speeding in his ambulance BTW! |

Yes, problem is some of my extended team are alcoholics. Still, they are jolly alcoholics.

How about a task that is similar to something in team workshop but in a totally different setting - same process / theme but a crazy task.
I hate icebreakers and have got in trouble before for partially wrecking them by just saying to my 'syndicate' / team why don't we just go for a coffee and chat. A silly one that works depending on numbers is to sort teams of 4/5 but teams are by first name 2nd letter and you cannot have same role in the same team. Then just a simple team exercise. It also depends how long the workshop is, if it's one day I would not bother. |

Go round and everyone has to name their favourite sexual position, mine is the JFK, you spatter all over her face and then try and get out the car as quickly as possible.

Some of the topics on the forum would probably work well as ice breakers, possible suggestions (but not limited to):
(i) What watch do wear? (ii) I think your key case is shit... discuss (iii) I have awd / 4wd do I also need winter tyres? |
