2018 M240ix Dinan CEL
This is a repost from the general forum where I posted "incorrectly" last night.
I had the stage 1 performance tuner and free flow exhaust (without mid-pipe) installed last November. Also have springs and handling kit installed, but not related to the problem. After 2 mos had CEL turn on and acceleration perhaps felt a bit more sluggish. Local BMW dealer have had the car for a week now and still don't know what the issue is. They downloaded some data yesterday and sent it to Dinan, but haven't heard back. I will keep you updated. Anyone have this set up and had this issue?

Our setups are pretty similar, with the difference being that I have the mid-pipe, and mine is a 2017. A few weeks ago I had a CEL, which was lit for about 24 hrs, then shut off. I called my BMW service connection, and he said not to worry about it, unless it appears again, and if so, to bring it in for them to check out (he also said that I could bring it in at that point if I wanted). A few weeks later it reoccured multiple times, so I dropped it off for inspection. They checked the code, and said it was a communication error that was being thrown, caused by the Stage 1, so the disconnected it, reattached it, and tested, No errors. They kept it 3 days, testing through-out, and were unable to throw any errors. I have been running the car for roughly a week now, with no issues at all, in terms of a CEL coming on, but also, the performance of the vehicle never changed either, running smooth and fast as hell as usual.
something else to note, the CEL seemed to occur on the first really cold day out here, so thinking that maybe the connections on the sensors were not tight enough, then some shrinkage and expanding with HOT/COLD exacerbated the loose connection. Also, my BMW dealer, and Dinan dealer are one and the same, having sold me the car, and done all the Dinan installs, .... All is well

I've had quite an issue with my Stage 1 Elite on my '17 M240xi. On and off for about 3 months, it was in the shop for about 6 weeks for many CEL's related to charge pressure sensor and temp sensor issues. All said and done, Dinan replaced the ECU (tuner) and the Dinan wiring harness. So basically, they replaced the entire Stage 1 in parts while diagnosing the issue. I've been driving the car for about a week and half now, and haven't had any recurrence of a CEL. I'm hoping this is the end of it. Car is running very well.
Only other Dinan mod I have is the midpipe. |

I have the dinan elite stage one tune and plan on having it installed in march along with hopefully a Dinan CAI - The above comments do lead to some concern - I look forward to hearing about what the resolution was to the CEL codes generated.. My dealer is a Dinan rep so they will be doing all the installations.

No update yet and they can't tell what the CEL code is. My dealer is still waiting on Dinan to get back to them with the info they sent. The tech "thinks" it's related to the Dinan software. Now Day 10.

Personally I would have them remove the tune - (not a big deal to do that) then see if the CEL goes away - I just had to do that with AFE CAI to determine it was in Fact the AFE causing the problem. Just a FYI increased air flow with the AFE due to denser outside air in cold temps. caused the CEL. It indicated too lean a mixture. So my question is did you install the exhaust before the tune and did the problem start occurring when it got colder in Wash.

Guys, ditch the overpriced Dinan crap and go with a JB4.You won't have any issues. Dinan is no longer the company it was when Steve was at the helm. Burger Motorsports is what Dinan used to be.

Update: It's been fixed so far, but I don't know what the original issue was for the CEL to be thrown. BMW NW who is an authorized Dinan installer sent them the info and Dinan ultimately told them to replace the Stage 1 wiring harness. They did that and I have about 80 miles on it now and no problems.
This took more time than I expected, but it seems to be resolved... So far. FWIW, although I'd rather have not had any problems, shit happens. In the end Dinan came through and so did the dealership to take care of the issue. I appreciate everyone's comments and advice.
