325d M57 thermostats question

Hi I've got a pre LCI 325d Msport with a M57 engine fitted.

The Dpf won't regen itself and after watching parameters I've noticed the engine temp won't reach the required 80° to perform the regen.

Am I right I'm thinking the M57 has the main thermostat situated at the front of the engine? And a thermostat for the egr?

If so am I better buying genuine BMW parts and what is good coolant?

Thanks

Hiya have a look at this

480A DFP 335d Error http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1456927

There's a pdf that will help you.

What fault codes do you have?

I ordered oem thermostats. Get 4 new thermostat bolts as well.

Genuine bmw coolant is quite cheap so get a few bottles of that as well

Buy both from BMW, will be around £100.

Both relatively easy to replace, it is tight and removing the rad and fan will help (I did this on an E60 530D which is the same engine) That had a electric water pump so easier to bleed.

Hardest part was getting the rubber pipe off the main stat. Complete pain in the ass but eventually it came free.
