Winter Wonderland

Last year I debated the point of owning winter wheels/tyres - after largely frost and snow-free winter, there didn't seem much benefit.

This year however has been a different kettle of Arbroath Smokies altogether.

Persistent freezing temperatures for weeks, and now....."snowmaggedon" (sorry, slipped into tabloidspeak there). Boy am I glad I had these puppies on over the past couple of days.

At the risk of tempting instant Karma, swanning about in the slidey stuff has been a breeze. Nary a flickering traction control light on even quite steep inclines, and with a light touch on the loud pedal I've found it ridiculously easy to get around. Surprisingly so in fact. Even Mrs BT's fwd A1 has been abandoned, and it's usually OK.

Now, if I can just find an empty school car park for some Ari Vatternen style donuts.....

Over 8" (21cm) of snow up here in the Highlands at present, and still snowing.

This winter, it's our forth round of snow and ice. Roads are disintegrating, potholes literally forming in hours.

I'm staying in today, not risking it, even running winter tyres... it is the other drivers out there 'without'.

Indeed, I got 'collected' by a numpty in a Range Rover a couple of years ago who thought the laws of gravity and friction didn't apply to him as he had 4wd - but summer tyres......

That looks like the Mearns Road you were on!

Like you, feeling happy with the winter tyres. Have them on both cars and they have worked perfectly so far. Still bad with us today - but have got everywhere we have to be. Trip to Mearns Primary was interesting though!

The tyres do not make you invincible - but they certainly do help.

We will see if it all freezes - that could be interesting!

Unlike some people in this area, both cars safely home and on the drive!

Yup, Mearns Road this morning - nose to tail from the golf club all the way up. Had to get Mrs BT to Barrhead as her car was stuck on a hill.

Came back via Roddinghead road to find some knobjockey in a car transporter had decided to use it as a short cut from Ayr to Mearns road. He was too big to turn left onto Mearns with the queuing traffic heading towards Mearnskirk, and promptly blocked the entry to Roddinghead for everyone else.....

Should’ve said that I continue to be impressed with the Vredstein Wintrac Extreme tyres.

Last week I was thinking about “all season” tyres for my M40i. After this week, I will be getting full fat winters - probably Vredsteins again.

Agreed it's a great year for the Winter Tyre Owners.
