LCI Nav Voice
The nav voice in my 2018 m240i vert is harder to understand with background noise (e.g. top-down) than the one from my 2015 m235i. It's lower pitched and lacking in treble. It basically sounds like someone cranked the bass and dropped the treble in the tone settings. (Yes, my ears are getting older, but I could hear the difference in a back-to-back test.)
I find it ironic that my 2015 has a slightly higher pitched and faster speaking voice than my wife's 2012 328, but the 2018 has gone back to lower and slower. Is there an adjustment for this somewhere? |

Do you have tweeters in the A pillar of your car?
My 135i vert had them and the voice was much clearer than on my M235i vert which did not have tweeters. My fix was to get the Focal IFBMW-S speakers and a Harmon Kardon grill from the dealer. Now the voice and music are crystal clear, much clearer than even the Harmon Kardon system in the 135i |

I have the HK system in the 240i, and had the same in the m235i. Music sounds fine, at least as fine as the HK system can make it. I don't think my problem is with the sound system; it's with the voice itself.
I was hoping to find a separate tone setting for the voice, orthe ability to select different voices, but that doesn't seem to be present, at least without coding. I assume they localize the voice for different accents, etc. ? Is it possible to code that in the field? |

Is the car pre wired for tweeters if I were to add them? |

The F22 amp sends full range audio to each door. The non-HK system is supposed to reproduce the audio via a full range speaker in the door. Cars with the HK system have the tweeter in the door sail. The tweeter has a bass blocking capacitor in the wire that runs from the door speaker. Btw, the HK door speaker has 2 connectors:
- for full range audio from the amp - for full range audio to the tweeter (lower frequencies are blocked by the capacitor). |

I found the navigation voice a bit hard to understand also but was able to improve it by simply cranking up the navigation voice volume via i-Drive, it was at less than 1/3 volume at delivery. From what I have read in other BMW forums, there is one voice, and only one voice. Perhaps in a future software upgrade this may change?

My wife commented today that the nav voice sounds muffled, so it's not just me :-) |

No, the IFBMW-S speakers come with the extra wire and cross over for the tweeters.
The only thing else you have to buy is the tweeter grill from BMW. Last edited by mdputnam; 01-22-2018 at 11:00 AM.. |
