XBox storage extension

Another Xbox question ......

Son has an Xbox 1 and is having to delete old games every time he gets a new one and is getting to the point where extra storage is needed. Seems an external disk is the only option. There is an official Xbox think its 2TB disk available for £80, just wondered are there any cheaper options, would imagine even 1TB would be plenty as currently I think he has 500gb so doubling that on a new disk should give plenty of headroom.

I've just got a 1tb seagate plugged into mine, I forget how much I paid, worth a nose on amazon.

Any USB3 drive will be fine, you should be able to get a 1Tb for well under £50

I run a generic 512GB USB 3 self powered one. So far so good.

even Currys will beat that price of 2GB for £80

Yup, any USB3 (required I believe for speed, although never tried a USB2 one to be honest...) will do just fine.

I'm using a 1tb drive myself.

This is what I will look to do when son no2 fills up his Xbox 1. Doubt it will be long, these games take up loads of space!

Amazon have a Seagate 1TB for £45 and 2 TB for £68 and the Xbox Gaming 2 TB item for £75. See no reason to go for the actual gaming edition one and its a horrible bright green colour, thinking maybe 1 TB is loads but could be wrong.

1tb will be more than enough, I've set mine up so it sees the 2 drives as one, I've got about 10 games installed and not even 20% usage, some games are of course bigger than others.

is this easy to do? I had a memory stick in use on his old 360 & saves needed pointing in that direction each time.

Ordered the 1 TB thanks to all.

How do I set it up as one drive, that sounds handy or maybe it goes that way anyway. Seems to say the disk just needs plugged in and the Xbox will find it automatically. What happens then when installing a new game, does it automatically go to the new drive as it has space or does that need selected?

Really easy mate, it's in the storage settings in Xbox.
