What the **** is wrong with people?
New Years Eve. A time for celebration. For being with loved ones. For seeing the old year out and welcoming in the new with all the endless possibilities it can bring.
No. It's a time for drive-by shootings. For a 14 year boy to attack an adult man at a party with a hammer. For owners of a Chinese restaurant in a rural area to kick out an employee (after lying to get us there) and expect the police to find somewhere for him. For violence and fighting like I've never known. From about 23:30 until 03:00 all we had on the radio was "any available unit for a fight on the High St", "any available unit for on going violent domestic. Male has been stabbed" "female unconscious on Midland road any available unit" "any available unit for a male presented at A&E, significant head injuries. Possibly going to be fatal" and so on and so on. At one point we had more officers at A&E with victims and offenders than on the streets. Hell, at one point we had a mass disorder at A&E where victims and offenders from a previous incident went at it again. We finished the night with about 8 or 9 GBHs, 15 or so ABHs and that's just what we know about. We had cars dumped where pissed drivers had crashed and done a runner. Pretty much all the kids from the care homes had done a runner. There was domestic after domestic after domestic. I've been a copper now for 10 years. Last night was the most violent I have known. And I cover the north of our county which is supposedly less violent than the south which has one major shithole town! I just don't understand people. I think I've seen pretty much most things being a copper for 10 years but last night was a whole new level. Only thing we didn't have was a murder and that's just down to the skill of the doctors and A&E staff. Is it so hard to go out, have a few drinks and go home with out committing a violent offence? |

It is terribly sad. Whilst most of us have violent thoughts now and again (hopefully limited to 'I couldn't half smack you one') it is staggering that so many people are prepared to draw blood from others.
Good on you for doing what you do. |

It is a nightmare going out in town / city over festive period especially New Year.
I assume St Neots had a spot of bother? There are people that just go out for a fight or to deliberately spoil fun and festivities for others. Utter scum the lot of them. It's amazing at times that we have people prepared to serv as police officers and specials. Great guys n girls. |

Chin up!! Just remember there are still decent families with decent values bringing up their kids properly to respect you.
I'm sure everyone of them is extremely grateful for the job you are doing! |

I just can't get my head around people going for a night out tooled up with the intention of shanking a random stranger if they look at them the wrong way.
Who the fuck could actually stick a knife into somebody? |

That must be a real shitter of an evening. If it's any consolation, your services are widely and greatly appreciated. I couldn't do it though, you're a bigger man than me. I'd only want to drive the traffic cars.

A big thank you to all the emergency services for everything they do. When will the politicians understand we need to spend more money on these people, even if it does mean a bit more tax. |

Not looking forward to the sleepless nights when my son gets to that age when they first start driving and going drinking and clubs etc. I foresee a few sleepless nights ahead. Although my son is only 9 years old we sit down and watch quite a few off these real life police programmes together. I want him to get an understanding of the stupid things people do and the potentially life ending situatons they get themselves and others into and the consequencies.
A big thank you to what you do TouringPleb. Last edited by F20MAW73; 01-01-2018 at 02:30 PM.. |

I am constantly and increasingly grateful to our emergency service guys and girls - what you face is becoming unreasonable.
Dropped into McDonalds the other night on the way back from picking up the girls from their panto and 2 paramedics walked in. Apparently they often have no chance for food during a shift - ridiculous. I bought their dinner that night (hardly much though - a few quid!).

Not enough deterrent I reckon. These people obviously have no discipline but aren't scared of plod / courts / prison. Then we have this nonsense about prisoner welfare and overcrowding. Fk em, squash them in until the doors need to be ratcheted shut. Maybe the experience will deter them from doing it again.

The issue is several fold starting from the very basic lack of respect for others and especially those in an emergency service field. We are engendering a society where it’s somebody else’s responsibility to be there to pick up the pieces and some of society feel it’s their right and due to be allowed to treat the emergency services with disrespect. Some of this cones with the benefits culture that is prevalent in some areas.
As for last night it’s probably a combination of Drink/ drugs Meeting with family etc who you don’t generally meet resulting in the usual feuds and cock waving. Young kids trying to build themselves a reputation as hard men when they’ve barely grown facial hair. Full moon anyway ranting over for now. TouringPleb - there’s some out here who appreciate your keeping the wolf from the door. Hopefully you’re off shift now so have a drink and enjoy your new year - hope it brings you and yours health and prosperity.
