MPE with aftermarket tips. - anyone running them?

wanted to change my MPE chrome tips to something bigger and maybe with a CF accent..

lots of Akraprovic style tips, as well as MPE CF style tips on ebay... has anyone already done this and if so, would you mind sharing your setup with pics and info?

what is the outlet size on the MPE muffler w/o tips.. im measuring around 60mm without the tips...

BMW made sure to expand the ends of the tailpipe to 3-5/8 at the ends where the tips attach to pretty much stop anyone from using aftermarket tips, as that size is not normal...

I searched for quite some time for aftermarket tips before buying my MPE, never found anything that would work, even with clamp on style - either too small or too large

Ended up buying the OEM CF tips

Now the stock exhaust ends are more conducive to many aftermarket tips

Wow that's annoying. CF tips aren't cheap either. My brother is an awesome welder though so I'm sure he could make anything work. Maybe I'll just get a Borla and call it a day

Yes, cutting and custom welding is definitely an option

I just decided to take the easier albeit more expensive route

I can't even find the CF tips used anywhere. When I had the MPE installed they took the OEM chrome tips off the stock muffler and banged them on to the new one, but they're cheap-looking. HOWever I don't want to spend $450+ for new CF tips or even $200+ for the M chrome tips. This is stupid.

I've spent countless amount of days looking into this as well. I've tried even buying tips from a member here who said he makes them work for the MPE and it didn't fit. I've checked all over eBay as well for custom tips that would just slip on and still no luck. I really don't want to have them welded on as I enjoy to take them off to clean them from time to time. Would love to see if anyone finds a solution to this.

I'm running the 3.5" black chrome BMS tips with the MPE on my M235. No modification is needed to get them to slip fit. It's the same exact MPE muffler and piping design as the one used on the F3X series. I originally had the MPE chrome tips, but they were a bit too small in diameter for my liking.

I've been looking at those as well, but it states on their website "Not for use with M-Performance exhaust systems." But if you say it slips right on without any modifications then I'll just order them. Would love to hear some more input on whether anyone else has the BMS tips with the MPE.

Update:

Just did some quick research on the forums and apparently OP has recently tried to install the BMS tips on their MPE and they said it fit.

the outlet of the BMS tip is smaller than the MPE outlet so it will wrap inside the MPE pipe... so when you look at it.. it looks fine.. no gaps

i have black BMS tips which is a tad bit bigger than the M performance tips.. and since i bought these used and cheap. no complaints but i will be looking for a pair of Burnt Slant Tips to replace these.

Yes, they fit. They have similar seating prongs as the OEM tips, but the BMS prongs are tighter. Thus you need the bend the prongs slightly for install and carefully watch to make sure they're all grabbing as you push the tips on. It took me about 10 minutes to install and they look great.

That is good to hear, looks like I'll be placing an order for them soon! I'll be sure to post pics in the near future.

Thank you all for the helpful information.

Which BMS tips did fit as they have many tips with different shapes and sizes, also any idea if the BMS 4” outlet tips fits both the MP pipe and the OEM diffuser ?

Thanks.

I'd assume you'd purchase the ones made for your model and year.

I'll give them a try.

Any idea how to get the old ones off I don't care if they survive the removal. They were the OE chrome tips that came with the stock exhaust so I would think they are on there really tight. The installer removed them from the old muffler and banged them on the new MPE.

I have a set of the Akrapovic replica tips, in matte carbon and they look really nice and the carbon fibers' quality is really good much better than expected

Same here. Used the chrome black tips that came with my 335 SportLine. Perfect fit, no mod needed.

Glad to hear that, I already ordered the 3.5" BMS tips but they're currently on back order for 2-4 weeks so I'll be posting a picture for sure once they arrive and I install them.

I'm running the F-series N55/B58 3.5" slip-ons on my M235 with the M Performance exhaust. Anything larger in diameter with my M Performance diffuser would risk melting the plastic.
