Camping in a 3 series
We are new to camping and family have bought us a tent and some equipment to get us started.
I've never been on a camp site and was wondering if I would struggle in a RWD 3 Series? I'd hate to get stuck. We could take the wife's Freelander but it's a bit high to get a roof box on. Anyone with experience of camp sites in a RWD car? |

I used to camp years ago in RWD, without issues. Camp sites were pretty crude and rough in those days. Sites near me wouldn't be any issue at all, roads and hard standing. Folks expect that sort of thing these days. |

Vast majority of campsites have decent parking.
Even if not it's slim that you would get stuck. We used to go up forest tracks and fields with our E91, never had any real problems. |

I’ve never had any problems parking at a campsite because I only stay in hotels or villas.

We went with camping for an extra holiday with the kids for the first time this year and had a great time, you will be fine in a rwd in a proper campsite.

I will need a roof box as the dog will be taking up half the boot but it's more the getting stuck on a field I'm worried about. Almost considering swapping the car if we get into it a lot.

Where did you put the kids? I can see bedding on the back seat!. We have a 5 series touring with a roof box, and just about enough space. Wouldn't want to go any smaller. Hopefully won't need to take a buggy next year, but sure we'll fill it with other 'crap'

Still impressive. Was that for a week? Cooker? BBQ? (we seem to have both)

Collapsible Roof Boxes
Anyone tried a collapsible roof box, if so would you recommend it? Now we've got two kids, I don't think there is room for all our camping stuff!

if you got to one of the bigger sites, you will be fine - and for your first time away thats what you want anyways. Somehwhere that has a shop / pub / town nearby because you will forget things!!! We've been to the peaks a few times and lots of sites are on hills so drainage is good.

Shouldn't have any bother unless you venture onto a really wet field. Just pull away in a higher gear etc. Even if you get stuck, someone will be 'only too happy' to tow you out

Fair play. We have a larger tent, buggy and two full sized child seats, but that's still impressive. Not sure whether to show the wife or not, as doesn't help my case for a 540 touring!

The tent is pretty big but fits well in the boot between the suspension struts.

It's no good. I keep looking at the photos, and just can't work out where you've put half the stuff. That F31 boot must be bigger than my E61. I thought I was good at packing, but know when I'm beaten
