Exclamation Engine rusting on a new 2018 328d. Can anyone check yours.

Just took delivery of 2018 328d. Car built in Munich. When inspecting engine bay, noticed that the exhaust cast part that comes from the passenger side of engine and connects to the first emissions component is red. Wondered initially, then realized the component had surface rust. The engine itself is sparkling aluminum, and the downstream exhaust components are flawless. Is that part supposed to rust that much? Can anyone snap a photo of your exhaust part? Wondering if transport from Germany and exposure to marine environment is the cause for rusting. Any suggestions?

The manifold is cast iron. It gets too hot to be painted. It was rust-colored from the factory. It's normal, and won't cause any problems.

Heck, they build bridges from steel that rusts on the exterior - once the rust layer forms, it protects the under-layer from further rust.
