Don't normally have days like this..

Last night we had reports of a male going to hang himself at a disused quarry. Search of the site done the best they could in the dark, no matching missing person reports, all negative so the job was closed.

Today the Inspector in the control room decided he wanted a daylight search of the area done.
"Yes Sarge, of course I can take the 4x4 out and do the search. You realise it's a massive area.. may take a while"

Spent most of the morning driving around the quarry doing some proper off-reading. Had a great day and no bodies were found. Win win situation!

Oh yes! Some of the really muddy sections were searched 4 or 5 times. Got to be thorough!

Makes up for the days when you have to scrape bodies off the roads.

Happy Christmas from the taxpayer

Now back to some proper police work

Cue Danny with another tale of woe

They take a lot of abuse and hard driving.

This one is 4 years old and has done 86,000.

PolSa or not to PolSa? the question for the ill informed, operationally inexperienced control room inspector.

Yeah not built for handling.lol
I always remember looking at a Ford Focus in Suffolk that was on Blues ...one of those Eco models with low resistance tyres and thinking...that can't be safe on those wheels ...still saved the Force £48 over the year on fuel and the copper can be replaced so that justifies the business case.

The L200 is awful to drive. Noisy, slow, awful gearbox, in 4x4 mode it turns like a supertanker, rolls, dives, just horrible to drive. I can't believe people actually choose to buy and drive these. It's also absolutely massive, easy to forget how high it is when going under some bars into car parks, and how long it is plus there's a tow bar on the end which has been battered many times!

What most people don't realise is that it's a switchable 4x4 system, so normally it's rear wheel drive. With no weight over the rear axle, the rear end comes out very, very easily. Can be fun at times but also tiring when driving it maybe over 200 miles a shift. Driving it on blues is an experience shall we say.

I only drive it when there's nothing left or like today when we actually need the 4X4 capacity.

Can't beat a nice bit of off road driving fun.

So not another Blue Lagoon incident then?

Well out of the six decent cars we have, that have any chance in a pursuit (decent is classed as a 4 year old mondeo estate, Ford kuga, Skoda yeti & Astra estates&#128514, we only have 1 on the road.

That leaves us with 5 year old focus hatchbacks.

Unfortunately all there generally is in the police are tales of woe, and that just from the police themselves.

Looks like you had fun off road. I was lucky enough to do 23 years of off roading on bikes, in Land Rovers and trucks of all sizes. Just one of the perks of being a squaddie😁
