Carly Do’s and Don’ts?

I just got the Carly app and Bluetooth connector for my 2011 335i with premium and sport package. I primarily got the app and connector to register my new battery but I’m also interested in the coding features. My question isn’t necessarily about coding but more about if there are specific best practices or things I need to be aware of when using the Carly App.

For example should the car be off, ignition on, running? Should the battery be connected to a tender?

Looking at the coding there’s many options that don’t seem to pertain to my car like CAS features even though i don’t have the comfort package. Will changing these settings do anything positive or negative for my vehicle?

Is there any “permanent” changes or damages that can be done with the Carly App or is it all reversible?

Essentially is this an app for dummies or something that should be used by a trained professional or with proper research?

Thank you for any info or direction you may provide!

Getting one for Cribmus.....subscribed.

I have a friend that just did some coding on his i3. He stated that its better to do one at a time versus trying to code all sorts of shit at once. He stated that you spend more time trying to correct errors than by doing one at a time.

Some tips using Carly
Make sure you have a good battery as the app needs at least 12.5 v to code
I find that running the engine makes diagnostics quicker - it reads the modules quicker but for coding I just have ignition on
The app is fairly fool proof - if a coding fails just try it again
Good luck

Can confirm! It failed once on my parent's 528i for the NBT (iDrive): hung up in the middle of the 'please wait' screen. All I had to do was restore the backup and I was good to go.

check coding section - there is big thread on this subject.

When doing anything with the app, just do it with your car running. That way you have less chance of messing up due to battery failing. App backs up everything prior to doing any coding, so you can revert back to the original (as long as you have the backup).
