wrong place at the wrong time

My thoughts & prayers are with the family's & friends of the shocking accident in Birmingham last week that took 6 lives, very sad.

Unfathomable to me how such a severe accident could occur on that stretch of road.

Truly horrendous.

Unfortunately I was in the flow of traffic when the emergency services were called, had to pull over a number of times to let ambulances and police through, fortunately for me I turned off to head towards Lichfield A38.

I've seen some pictures circulating already, not for the faint hearted.

Assumptions from what I've read:

4 x young lads in an Audi S3. None wearing seatbelts. 3 x dead and 1 x seriously injured.

3 x people in a taxi, all without seatbelts. 3 x dead.

2 x people in another car that was very seriously damaged. Both wearing seatbelts. 2 x minor injuries.

There's a lesson there!

However it is a terrible loss for all those affected

Definitely mate, I've had two friends die in car crashes because they weren't wearing seat belts! Such a stupid waste of lives!

Same thing with that crash the other week with the 15 year old driving.
When the police arrived, they couldn’t work out who was even in the vehicle that crashed.

It’s the folk that have to scrape all these folk off the tarmac I feel sorry for.

I'd say theres more to the accident than meets the eye, 30 mph stretch of road, one can speculate!

Awful for the families, just before christmas!

I always put my seatbelt on in a car, whether driving or passenger, but for some reason in a Hackney cab I rarely do. Madness really, maybe it's because they feel like tanks and are slow as shit. I'll remember from now on.

It's actually a 40mph limit through there.

Unconfirmed reports coming in that the audi was racing at insane speeds and lost control - crossed the non existing central reservation into the path of the taxi. Source - Metro.

Whatever the investigation uncovers its a terrible tragedy.

That's what I meant above by it being unfathomable to me that such an horrific crash could happen there - crashes like that just don't happen doing 40 mph.

Dreadful. It's terrifying because it's the kind of thing that you can be caught up in through no fault of your own just doing your own thing. Seems like at least one of the deceased (the driver) in the S3 has had a brush with the law involving a car travelling at excessive speed (130mph chase down the motorway with heroin thrown from the vehicle) in the past.

Here is the story:

https://www.expressandstar.com/news/...oud-of-heroin/

Driving his Audi S3, jailed on 11th November 2016 for 36 months for possession with intent to supply and 11 months for dangerous driving (served concurrently), and yet here we are, 13 months later. Interesting that the article suggests the police were trying to seize the car under the proceeds of crime legislation, I presume they were unsuccessful.

Obviously we'll have to wait for the full story to come out and for the police to reach a conclusion, but my general rule is that the most likely explanation is usually the right one...

Wrong place at the wrong time. For the poor souls in the Taxi.

The crew in the Audi I have no sympathy for.

Yup. It’s a tragedy he hit the taxi instead of piling into the tunnel wall on his own.

The really sad thing is the clown responsible had been caught and jailed before and still did not learn his lesson. Unfortunately, there are be plenty others like him who just have complete disregard for everyone else around them and class a prison sentence like some kind of joke.

It’s irritated me the pics of the victims be8ng circulated on media such as WhatsApp etc

Really baffles and irritates me that tragedies are a source of amusement and titillation for some. Wonde4 if the6 stop to think how they would feel/ react if it was their nearest and dearest.

I believe most of that footage was of the Audi occupants. If it wasn’t, you are quite right. If it was, f**k ‘em.

I think everyone deserves to be treated with a certain amount of respect, whoever they are. I don't think anyone should have pictures like that shared of them.

And even if you don't think they deserve it, surely their families do?

I suppose that depends on how complicit their families are in their lives.
