And can be extended at the end of year 3, alongside the extended warranty, though you don't need to have the warranty.

When I was handed the car, the dealer informed me of this? Worth checking with customer service?

Is it worth it though? Anyone ever used it? The neighbour has it and BMW must outsource when busy because a local recovery guy attended.

It's outsourced to local approved recovery when out of business hours. During working hours you're supposed to get a BMW technician.

I have used it 6 times in 20 years of BMW ownership, and on only one of those occasions (a fuel blockage in an M5) did they send a BMW technician. On all of the other occasions they have just sent some cheapo local recovery firm, and some of them have been utter jobsworth shite.

I know some have had better experience of the service, including replacing EGRs, but mine has been very poor and I haven’t extended.

Will BMW do the same type of service as the AA/RAC, such as sort out punctures and other minor things. I presumed not, so stayed with the AA as well.

Isn't that the warranty? Two years from BMW AG and then BMW GB top it up to 3 years.

Anyone ever had an auto recovered? I think the manual says it can’t be towed and must be moved on a flat bed?

Wonder if they could tow backwards though? I.e driven wheels off the ground at the back?

Nope I was talking about driving up to Europe when the dealer mentioned this to me, definitely recovery not warranty

Anyways I get free recovery through my bank, work, insurance policy and now BMW, I found in the past getting recovered through BMW was best due to the ease of getting a replacement car, I got a like for like through enterprise whilst i waited at the dealership to complete the paperwork

Insist on a flatbed when u make the call

I’ve had an occasion where they sent a normal tow car and the technician then had to phone in for a flatbed which took ages

I've only needed to use it once, but that one time was when on a ski trip to the Alps. Managed to break down 50 metres from the entrance to the Mont Blanc tunnel on the Italian side after a day trip from Chamonix!
It was dealt with pretty well actually and got a decent replacement car when it got recovered to a local French dealer. It needed a new ECU, sent from Munich, so I ended up driving the French hire car back to uk after our holiday, where they swapped me in to a British hire car. They then sorted out getting my car returned to me after the repair.
All in all it was a superb service, and the quality European cover is what I keep it for.

Used it three time in 20 years of ownership and was excellent each time.

Blimey that is impressive. Cost them a few quid there!

Most of our cars will be over the weight limit for a tow recovery anyway but I've had a few (BMW and non-BMW) cars recovered and they've always called for a flat bed.

Saturday is classed as working hours - like it is at the dealership. Although I bet it wasn't late evening, they're all tucked up in bed then.

I wasn’t aware of that. That’s good news. I have just checked the FAQs and there it is:

Does BMW Insured Warranty include any additional benefits?

Yes. A facility for UK roadside recovery only - Warranty Assist - is included with BMW Insured Warranty.

Please note that this service is limited to recovery to the nearest retailer within the UK only and is not a replacement for the full assistance services and benefits provided by BMW Insured Emergency Service at home, elsewhere or on the road in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Continental Europe. BMW Insured Emergency Service cover is available as an option with all BMW Insured Warranty policies.
