handbrake e92

Hi, I apply the hand brake, release the brake pedal and the car lurches forward before coming to a stop. I have never had a car that behaves like this when the hand brake is applied.

Is this behaviour normal for the e92? It's a mechanical hand brake not an electronic parking brake.

What you describe is normal. A bit disconcerting the first time, but you'll get used to it. I think it may be due to the link with hill hold assist.

Or the handbrake being naff and the P (park lock) engaging on the automatic box
That’s what I thought mine was anyway, will have to try it in N

Thanks, very useful replies.

I have a manual and I've replaced the cables and had both sets of shoes off the car and completely disassembled. My concern is/ was that I had not re-assembled correctly.

I do find it strange that the hand brake lever in the car sometimes feels very taught but others very slack. It raises to different heights for reasons I cannot determine, has anyone else experienced this also?

I have exactly the same thing with both my e92 and e81. Just feels normal now, although it still scares my partner when she has to stop on a steep hill!
