Clearly it is illegal, and clearly using tinder is more distracting than changing the song in Spotify, I suppose the question should be phrased slightly differently.

why is it illegal to use a phone in a holder for say Spotify, but not illegal to use your in car entertainment system?

Using the satnav, the stereo or your incar phone are all equally distracting but isn't automatically illegal.

No-one would be jumping up and down if the guy was using an incar touchscreen, but because he's using his phone touch screen instead (which is illegal) then everyone is outraged. Should that outrage not be directed at changing the law to extend to in-car systems?

Good point.

Meanwhile manufacturers are adding Apple CarPlay so you can do more distracting stuff without breaking the law...
