iPhone & 30i weekend

My wife got her iPhone X on Friday ... and I got my 30i on Saturday - a happy weekend all around! Oh, and a surprise is the wireless charger is in front of the cup holders - not in the armrest pocket thing where I thought it would be ... happy times! Oh, and one more thing - this car kicks ass!

Is your msport or xline? Some exterior shots would be nice too.

It’s xLine - with most of the packages. Happy to take any pics that would be helpful. Anything in particular you’re interested in seeing?

775 Anthracite headliner is a standard feature on the 30i for the US market.

Does your charge (blue light comes on) every time you put a phone there with less than full charge? I've noticed that mine only seems to turn the blue light on only about half the time, even with the phone battery not full.

Is the phone somehow secured to the charging tray? i would think it would move around a lot if it wasn't. Also, the pic on the BMW configurator for the M40i shows the wireless charging tray on the inner left side of the center console storage bin, with what looks like a bracket to secure the phone, your setup looks completely different? Is it a different setup the M40i and 30i (i'd be surprised if it was). Confused.

I asked my wife and she indicates the blue light always comes on, whether charged or not. We have some Samsung Wireless charging pads we use in our home, and before purchasing she was reading some of the comments indicating certain phone cases may cause some issues. I think she said 'Otterbox' (could be wrong). So might be something to look into if you are using a case?

No secure needed, jjl - it feels almost like a rubber-type material, and it definitely isn't slippery. I set my phone on it and tried to slide it and it barely budged. There is no bracket to secure the phone. I think what you are seeing is a little removable rubbery tray. I honestly don't know it's purpose, though, as it doesn't look like it would hold much of anything.

If by "little removable rubbery tray" you mean the thingy to the right of the charging mat, it is the holder/charger for the BMW Mega Key aka display key. About the same size as the Motorola v60 phone that came in my 2007 E70 X5.

My understanding is that BMW moved away from that design. The current one seems much better in my opinion.

I have had some problems with it not always "seeing" the phone and not charging. I do have a leather case (not an Otter) and perhaps it is interfering. Could also be some other issue with either my phone (a Samsung Note) or the car electronics as it also sometimes has not connected the Bluetooth. Too early for me to say anything is defective, though--I'm still evaluating issue.

That's the front center storage (underneath where you place your elbow when driving). You just can't see the cover which has been raised in the view you show.

Just picked up my x3 today. Am I correct that this car cannot display or read a text message? I have wireless charging. This cannot be correct. The "genius" at the dealer said the car does NOT support text messages. I hope Im wrong. Can anyone please explain this to me.
thanks
Kenny

I believe that with Apple Car Play it will read you the messages. I know that in my 2014 F34 it will read them to my through Siri and ask If I want to (dictate) a reply.

Oooo another Enhanced BT question.

If you have wireless charging, then you have Enhanced BT which will include the Office function that will allow you to read/reply to text messages as long as your phone supports it, like Android. Not entirely sure with iPhone, but like Slalom said - you can do it with iPhone via CarPlay if you have that.
