Oil pan gasket replacement - knock
Recently replaced the oil pan gasket. Under reasonably brisk acceleration there is now a single knock, emanating from somewhere underneath the car (I think). I didn't do the work myself, so I wonder if the garage didn't torque the subframe back correctly? I'm going to get under it at the weekend any ideas where to start looking? Thanks in advance.

Take it back to where you had the work done and tell them they need to recheck their work, you shouldn't have to start looking yourself when you've paid out already.

Took it back to the garage but they could not identify any problems.
I've looked underneath, the only immediate issue I can see is the corrosion of the heat shield around the bolts. I don't believe this is causing the clunking/ creaking sound. I got hold of anything and everything I could to see if there was any movement and it all seemed firm and tight and no leaks were obvious. I emptied the car completely and test drove it. Under reasonable acceleration the sound emanates from the rear of the vehicle. It sounds like its coming from the boot? Driving and performance are unaffected. It may just be something I'm going to have to live with! Or wait until whatever is causing it fails properly/ completely. Generally, I have noticed that it is quite a creaky car - has anyone else noticed the same? Maybe I bought a lemon |

Is your car a convertable?
I have noticed with mine that if the roof is not fully closed it can make some odd noises. Visually it looks shut but open and close it again and the noises go away. |

Interesting and thanks for your response, although my car is a coupe not a convertible.
I do hear some occasional creaking around the drivers side window, which I think is the glass moving against the rubber gaskets on the bodywork. I guess this is to be expected on cars with frameless door windows. The car is almost 10 years old after all. I would like to have another poke around, remove all of the under trays and carry out a more thorough inspection. |
