Oil Change indicator gone crazy

2006 - e90 - 325xi.

yesterday the oil change indicator lit up. So ran the diagnostics and said +1qt. Its indicator was on the min. I added 1qt of 5w-30. Now the indicator is at max. Just adding 1qt showed this much variation. Is it correct or something wrong ?

In most cases, the difference between the min and max lines on the dip stick or electronic indicator is about a quart of oil. I think you're good!

Sounds correct. That indicator is only for the last quart, it doesn’t measure the whole oil pan capacity. So when it shows at Min level it means you are 1 quart low

The engine oil level indicator measures in 1/4 quarts. The bottom of the indicator means you are 1 quart low. Adding one quart brings it back to max.

Has anyone observed an overfill condition indicated by the electronic dipstick? I've never seen mine anywhere except max, and I don't want to underfill and run the motor to test it....just curious. I always do 6.5 when I change it, not 6.8...

If you overfill it will show. And that is bad. Someone posted a pic of the idrive display with the overfill condition and it looks nasty. Not sure on which forum now - it was a while ago.
