Bumper Repair Advice
I stupidly backed up into a concrete light pole. Bumper pushed in, scraped up, even a small hole above the lower light. Trunk functions fine, all electronics are intact including parking sensors.
Any advice on how to get repaired or replaced? |

a hole in a bumper can be repaired, though some deformations of bumpers may require a new bumper fascia.
m235 bumper is two parts, bumper has impact foam elements behind, and painting is parts and labor. I can't see your pics. |

that's not bad, even if you need a new bumper. Collision centers do have computerized optical equipment to create paint matches. probably the most common repair a collision centre does, just pick wisely whom you decide have do the repair.

Are you sure the parking sensors were working?

Agree...very likely looks like a replacement will be needed....figure about a thousand dollars, painted, and installed, but not sure about further damage.

Melt like butter as in using a heat gun to help push the bumper back out? I have a very minor under the in mine that I was going to try to force back out with a heat gun or hot water.

Can't speak to BMW bumper material, but had a Saturn w/ virtually the same damage shown. Was fixed w/ a heat gun, and paint.
Take it to a shop (small ones, ideally a single owner shop where the guy is passionate about his craft) and see what the prognosis is. Big shops will want to replace the bumper w/o even trying to fix. Easier and more money for them. Last edited by USA-RET; 11-03-2017 at 12:21 PM.. |

The guy at a BMW body shop said that the heat gun will work with most cars, unfortunately he said that the BMW bumper material is different and it will melt. That is just what I was told...

If that's the case, going to a small shop and asking them to try and if it melts have them do a new bumper. Betting a guy would try, and failing that, likely wouldn't charge for the attempt. Worth pursuing IMO
Worst case, you have to spring for a new bumper. |
