New to BMW and question on extended service contract
Hello all,
I have finally decided to join the BMW family and am looking into buying a used 228i. But there seems to be very few CPO with low mileage available from the dealers. I found a 2016 228i with 14K miles from a non BMW dealer. It sat on a BMW dealer lot for 3 months as a CPO until it was sold at an auction. It has 30 months of original manufacturer warranty left. Can I and should I buy the extended service contract from a BMW dealer? I also called up Endurance Dealer Service and got a quote for 7 years 80K miles for their Supreme "bumper to bumper" service contract for $4,247. Maybe I should just wait until near the end of the original warranty before considering buying one? Thanks in advance for any advice! Mich |

I am sure others with more knowledge on the subject will chime in soon, but I believe you can still get it CPO'd even if not purchasing from a BMW dealer.

Well, of course, call a dealer and ask, to be sure. I'd be guided by the car's behavior up to the time of the original warranty running out. As far as I know, there's no real savings to be had by signing up early and, who knows, you might decide to dump the car.

Call to have a professional explain all the options to you. Just need to decide whatever you want before original warranty lapses.

If you go aftermarket warranty, look into some reviews of the specific vendor - I've seen both good and bad reports, some of them are only good at cashing your check, then telling you how whatever it is isn't covered. Personally I won't take the chance of going w/o warranty, so for me it will just be which one.

Thanks BEN-S4 and Maynard. Yes, I will definitely get it before the original warranty expired. Learned my lesson on my '09 MINI Clubman Cooper S. Loved the car but it is time to move on. Got my very first BMW a couple days back and love the ride!
Thanks everyone who took the time to answer my question! |
