I drove a 2018 and just recently purchased a 2017. I didn't notice any difference in steering or handling other than the fact that the 2018 had Michelin Super Sport tire so that could be a little more responsive and sticky. I could not pass up a little over $8k off sticker.

I test drove a 2017 and bought a 2018. Steering has little feedback compared to a good old rack and pinion. I didn't notice any difference.

I just drove a 330 for 3 days while mine was in the shop getting the service bulletin on the roof done and talk about light. It was like the power steering was on steroids. I was so surprised how different my 235 was when I finally got it back. Solid and heavy. I was truly surprised at the difference. Not really sure how the differences are between the 228 and the 235 because of the engine weight difference as I have never driven the 228.

We have a 2017 230 and 2016 235. The 235 feels planted and quick where as the 230 is light and offers a good gas mileage. Both great cars, one's my daughter's and the M235 is my son's. I did see the 2018 and what i gather the lights are a bit different and some changes to the interior. I didn't drive it but I was told not much change in the way it rides.

For the last few months I have been going back and forth with either the 2016/2017 M235i/M240i or a 2015/2016 C7 Vette LT2 with the Z51 Package. Thanks to a friend, I have been able to drive both for a couple of weeks. I loved the Vette, the sound of the V8 and the auto rev matching while rowing backwards on the stick was intoxication. However, I am not as aerodynamic as I would like to be and after 30 minutes behind the wheel I felt a bit too uncomfortable. The BMW, was a bit more forgiving and I could see myself driving for hours with almost equal enjoyment, the baby M is surprisingly quick. I was just about to purchase a certified pre-owned with less than 8k miles until I drove the 2018. Although the changes are minimal, they were enough for me to beg, scream and fight to squeeze out $4.5k from the MSRP of a new 2018 M240i Convertible and snag the .09% financing for 72 months, I am very happy!

Some changes to the tech stuff, the upgrade to iDrive 6.0 and all included services, much more then what was available on the 2017. The iDrive display is bigger with some visual changes to the dash. The 2018 had 18-inch M Light-Alloy Double-Spoke wheels with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires versus the all-season set on the 2017. The slight exterior changes to the front and back I think give the 2018 a more serious look, but what sealed the deal for me to step up to the 2018 was the paint and rag top combination, Long Beach Blue with the black satin top.

You do realize 1/2 of this info is incorrect, right?

* The iDrive screen size is the same size as prior years. 8.8 inches with Nav, and 6.5 inches without. The 2018 is touch-screen though with a slightly updated UI. There aren't much differences between ID5 and ID6 when it comes to functionality.
* All model years are available with either the 18 inch Perelli run-flats, or the 18 inch staggered Michelin Pilot Super Sports. It was always a no cost option that is selected when the car is configured.
* The 2018 m240i does not come in Long Beach Blue. The only blue that's available for the m240i is the Estoril Blue II, same as in prior years. The only 2er that's available in LBB is the M2.

In 2016 they charged $600 for the staggered wheels/summer tires alone (but usually bundled as sport package or THP); and at the time you could also get Conti runflat summer performers (contisport 5; might have needed the THP to get MPSS?). This is what I got, but I'd opt for the MPSS or other non-RFT if you have the option and can live with non-RFT. I'll be replacing these for next summer after they lunched themselves ('cupped wearing' that is insufferable at about 17k). Dealer blamed on alignment problem but I'm thinking it is an inherent problem with these tires, judging from other reviews.

I was replying to the poster who was comparing a 2017 m240i to a 2018 m240i and stated that the 2018 comes with MPSS while the 2017 comes with runflats, where the inference was that it's a model year difference between 17 and 18. I'm not sure about the 228i/230i.

OK, just stopped by the 'build your own' page to check this out - Man, have they f'ed that up since I was shopping for mine! I think I can get more info from the fine print in a magazine ad. Does look like the 18" w/ non-RFT performers is now a no-cost, but I can't figure out how to tell what tires they are offering, or if they still have the RFT performance option. And hoping that they now just add the THP as standard, because I couldn't figure out how to find/select that for a 240. I just made the mistake of driving a 240 convertible, and it does get me thinking....

THP is only for the 4 cylinder models; standard on the six cylinder 240.

Actually, the M3's with the electric steering assist are supposed to have nearly the same feel as the hydraulically assisted steering of old.

Yes, the Configurator does not tell the full story. Just skip the middle-man and go directly to Pricing and Ordering Guides:

Maybe the M4 GTS has steering feel, but I don't know since that's the only car I haven't been able to track. The standard M3 is almost as numb as our cars.

The point was that you were giving false info and that can be confusing for someone new that is looking for help in making a decision. You’re making it sound as though the I-drive 6.0 system in your 2018 is so much more advanced when in fact it’s not “full of added functionality”.

Personally I’m not a huge fan of the new 2018 wheel option for the m240. From across the lot the 2018 m240 lineup blends in with the 230 models, whereas the wheels on the 2017 and back made the car stand apart from the rest. Minor detail but I look at these things everyday because I sell them and it has been a complaint I’ve heard from most of the staff at our store.

I know everyone always feels the need to defend their decision so it’s really hard to get a completely unbiased opinion. Someone who just bought a 2018 isn’t going to say “yeah I liked the 2017 better but I wanted to buy the 2018 just to have it”.
