I got my 2014 BMW without the tech package, and I found it surprising that Bluetooth audio is not standard on such an expensive car. I want to make sure that I have the most up to date software, so can someone please tell me if this is the most updated version (attached)? If not, which software is, and where can I find it? And will the new software add Bluetooth audio streaming capabilities?

Thanks

Good question. I'm in the same boat.

Actually I found the latest version, although it was released back in 2012. If you go to bmw.com/updates and type in the last 7 digits of your VIN, it?ll give you the option to download the latest software. I?m still not sure if it will add Bluetooth audio streaming capabilities, though.

Another option is to take your car to your dealer/service and have them hook it up to ISTA and update it from there. I believe the latest version of it should be 4.07.31. This usually also updates the car as a whole so you may benefit from it.

I'm sure they will charge me for their time since I'm out of warranty.

I didn’t know that actually, I was never charged for updating the software and I do it everytime a new version of it becomes available. But things differ from country to country so. If you trust yourself you can try updating it by yourself, all you need is a charger and ISTA+.

I'm going to call and ask but who knows. Nothing is free at that dealer.

You need to update via ISTA. I too have a 2014 228i and although it came with BT voice, it did not come with BT A2DP (audio streaming). You must enable it or ‘unlock’ it. I find it ridiculous that BMW has it locked, I assume so that the dealers can charge you to “install” it. Anyway, buy the cable- the software and guides are out there. Or pay someone to do it.

Sounds good, I'll have to look further into it
