My exhaust end is not attached...

A friend pointed out to me this morning that my exhaust is wobbly when I drive. Turns out the end bit is not attached to anything. It has all the attachments on the exhaust but I don't see anywhere where it could have been attached on the car side... Any ideas? It's the preLCI 320D E90 with the "ugly" pointing down exhaust. There are 3 big bolts to the side toward the middle of the car but I don't see any fresh marks that would indicate something came off of them. They are covered in years of dirt. The next attachment is in front of the diff but that's like 4 feet of pipe and the box hanging in the air...

Any of you guys know how it attaches?

Removed the bumper but there is no sign of any bracket to hook that grommet on or a place where a bracket could be attached

How is this possible?

I think there is a bolt on the corner of the sub-frame for attaching a bracket to hold the exhaust. But I think it's for a different kind of exhaust? There is nothing on it now.

I am very confused....

Its because you a have tow bar. My one looked just like that but had a bracket attached on the end so you could hang the exhaust properly.

Think it was attached to the bottom of the 3 mounting bolts.

I had no idea it wasn't original... I just thought that's how they all came.

What do others do when they mount the tow bar? Surely they don't just leave the exhaust hanging like that?

As stated my tow bar had a bracket in place of the original. Quite easy to do. I'm guessing when they did yours they forgot or couldn't be bothered lol.

Is that bracket from BMW or was it a custom made? Though to be honest I can't imagine myself needing a tow bar, I should just buy a normal bumper bar from eBay and fit it instead of that tow bar.

That I dont know but like you I dumped the tow bar as not for me and I couldn't fit an M-Sport bumper with it there. I bought a used bumper bar for about £20 delivered. When fitting it I used some Sikaflex sealant around the mounting points as well.

I believe the original bumper bar has gaskets between it and the chassis probably to stop water ingress.

Yes, realoem shows gaskets, I'm ordering more stuff so will add them to the list if not too expensive.

I think I've got a 335d E91 cross member going spare in the garage - obviously it has the brackets for exhausts both sides, but it may do you if you want to remove the towbar - may even have the original gaskets!
