Sold my beloved 335i coupe... considering X3 M40i... questions
So I sold my beloved 335i coupe. Very sad.
But wife is letting me get a '18 X3 M40i. I believe this engine uses the B58 motor. Does anyone know if this engine is going to be more reliable than the N54? For example: 1) cheaper injectors? 2) no problems with the crank pulley and belt sucking problem 3) no dinosaur turbos, electronic wastegate more reliable? easier to repair/replace the wastegate, especially when stuck like the 335i 4) will it still have carbon build-up problem? 5) plastic intake manifold and broke charge pipe sooner or later? 6) subframe problems? I probably won't get the first year model... those are the worst... but could consider the 2nd year, 2019. |

B58 is a whole different ball-game and its an improvement over N54/N55
Since B58 is not in its first year so you're safe. I got an X4 M40i 2016 (first year of the M40i but N55 from M2/M235 combo) so its solid as it can be. 1yr 1/2 later 25k miles and doesn't burn oil like other N55 i hear about and 0 issues. So consider all your questions answered
