E90 glovebox mystery cable

Does anybody know that the below cable is for? It looks like it is located in the same spot that the glovebox flashlight should have been (one didn't come with the car). I bought a kit that was supposed to enable the flashlight socket to be used for 12v power, alas the prongs on the power socket were too big.

If this isn't the power port of the flashlight what is it? And does anyone think a 12v power socket can be spliced on?

I don't see a reason why you couldn't splice that in if the pins do not fit. It would depend on how important reversing this change is to you. You probably want to check polarity first.

Possibly contact the vendor of the kit? Might be possible to modify the prongs, like cutting a slit to make the diameter smaller
