Tire Size Question

I'd like some advice on tire sizes.

Front: 18x8 (40mm offset)
Rear: 18x8 (20mm offset)
Would you run 225/40/R18s or 235/40/R18s?

Front:18x8 (40mm offset)
Rear: 18x9 (25mm offset)
Would you run 225/40/R18s (front) and 255/35/R18's (rear) or 235/35/R18 (front) and 265/35/R18s (rear)

I know the smaller width tire is closer to stock, but the difference is minimal. What is the preferred setup and why?
