Never been pulled.........

By the Rozzers! (I do alright otherwise)

26 year old male been driving since I was 17. Had plenty of nice cars which I thought would raise my chances as a young male.

Not that I'm complaining but I think this is rare?

What do others think?

Just curious how many people actually get stopped.

Haha I know I didn't want to jinx it. I've nothing to hide anyway as long as I'm not speeding!

Just curious what other people's experiences are.

I've had a lot of hot hatches which I presumed would give me a headache!

Been pulled a few times in my younger days (NOT when driving a fast car, or driving quickly for that matter) for a "routine check"...

I used to get pulled quite regularly. Every 2-3 months, I'd guess.

Then, in 1995 or so, this happened ...

I was driving home from my girlfriend's house. Going round a roundabout, I saw a police car parked up. I knew I had a tail light out on my Volvo 440 (yeah, it was that long ago), and I'd been and picked up a replacement bulb for it that day, but not fitted it yet. The bulb was sitting in the door pocket, in it's wrapper.
Anyway, police car pulls out behind me, a few hundred yards down the road blue lights, and we pull over. The officer asks if I know the light isn't working, I reply yes, and show him the bulb ... have you been drinking ... no ... routine breath test ... thankyou and goodnight sir.
About 5 miles further on, and half a mile from home, I see a police car sitting in a layby ... I know what's going to happen next.
And it does. Exactly the same as before. But this time, I'm almost laughing when he pulls me over, and the officer asks me why.
"Because I got pulled by one of your colleagues about 10 minutes ago", I reply.
So, once we've finished with the breath test, he asks me to wait a minute and goes back to his car. Comes back, "Just spoken to the other officer who pulled you over to confirm it. Goodnight."

Since then, NEVER been pulled over. Not once.

Make of it what you will. Luck, or they just decided I wasn't worth wasting time on.

I wouldn't worry, plod likes to stay in the station doing paperwork these days.

Those brave few that venture out on the roads, do you by camera because of the potential health and safety implications of a confrontation!

I got pulled a few times when younger and I wasn?t driving anything fancy. Think time of day/night, look and number of people in the car make a difference. I used to wear baseball caps and majority of the time it was late and there were a few lads in the car. I have always been legit so just a quick stop asked details and then back to what I was doing.

Lots of times when i was younger, the most been 4 times in one week when I had a RS 2000. In the last 15+ years never have , not even on my motorbike. I put it down to the fewer numbers of police these days especially traffic cops. Plenty of speed camera vans, aka money makers, though.

I have only been pulled over once in 30 years of driving, and that was for speeding. Perhaps it was the end of a shift as despite the low 3 figure speed, it was breathalyse (zero), check car and a 3 point fixed penalty.

I do think that the police should stop and breathalyse more often, although I appreciate that this takes resources. I would like to see people get breath tested on average every couple of years. You seem very unlikely to get caught unless you hit someone currently.

Being stopped was a weekly occurrence back in my youth, probably because the police had an issue with hot hatch brigade round my way. On a couple of occasions they would block the entrance to the car park or wherever we were & check, breath test, inspect all at the same time. Have never been stopped on my motorbikes though.

33 driving 15 years never been "pulled" did have to tell plod I hadn't been drinking when a road block had been put in place in the high street, not sure that counts.

Had a Honda Civic Lsi which I blew the bottom end out of, lowered, big exhaust etc was driving down a dual carriageway with police behind me thinking, "definitely going to get pulled", blue smoke pouring out the back as the oil was burning off and the exhaust noise was ridiculous, but nothing I assumed he felt sorry for me...

Yup you've jinxed yourself now. I've been driving since I was 17, didn't get any speeding ticket or anything till I hit 30.

Got pulled recently for overtaking a guy who has decided to stop in a yellow box/junction to tell me how displeased he was that I stopped him texting in order for him to go through the green fucking light.

I was pulled, explained to copper, who was checking my insurance. Said other car driver then drove past and shouted out the window. They thanked me, jumped in their car and then pulled him over!

I went along my merry way with a smile on my face!

I strongly suggest you contact your local force and ask if you can go out with an officer for a shift as an observer.

Might stop you posting crap on public forums.

I got pulled over last week! Probably has something to do with overtaking a police car on a B-road that was doing the NSL

We can only stop someone specifically to breathalyse if there is suspicion of alcohol (either information received or how someone is driving), so can't do random breath tests.

However we can pull cars over to ascertain who the driver is, if they have a licence and insurance etc. If having pulled someone over for this reason and we suspect the driver might be intoxicated (slurred speech, smell etc) then we can breathalyse them.

Also if anyone has committed any offence under the RTA or been involved in a RTC.

I appreciate there would need to be a change in the law, but having been breath tested once in 30 years, and even that was easily avoidable if I had been driving at a sensible speed, the balance may not be right at the moment.

It just feels like the chance of getting caught drink driving is extremely low currently, so allowing some random testing meaning the average driver gets tested every couple of years, could act as a useful deterrent.

Speed is measured tens of thousands of times more than we are breath tested.

Might need a few more police though...

You can't tell us that his system isn't abused by some officers though. I've been pulled twice for and both times the "reason" was made up for convenience.

1. Near Christmas on an estate near a pub and near my work a policeman holds up a speed gun in front of me and then pulls me over. Tells me I was speeding, which I wasn't. Then tells me I was lucky, the gun didn't register my speed properly. But, while I'm here and as I'm suspected of speeding, would I mind taking a breathalyser test. I heard from work the next week that a large number of people were breathalysed in the same night with the same trumped up story.

2. Pulled over on the Stocksbridge bypass in Sheffield at 11 o clock at night, not a soul on the road apart from me. I'm on cruise control at 50 in a 50 on a long straight wide road, paying full attention. I'm asked to do a breathalyser again, at which point I ask why I was pulled. Driving erratically, faster then slower, I was told. I said, what, are you joking, I was on cruise control at 50? The younger officer couldn't stop himself laughing a bit. The older one said if you haven't had a drink you won't mind breathing into this anyway will you? So I did, quickest way to get back on my way.
