Brake fluid
I would need it for "fast" road driving, not track use.
Which one are you guys using? How much is required? Am I correct in understanding DOT 4 should be fine? I have the M Sport Plus brakes, that doesn't include stainless steel braided brake hoses does it? Any particular ones you guys advise?

Can someone please answer the questions I've asked, since I didn't ask if I'm over thinking it?

Nobody is answering your question because probably nobody has done it. And they haven't done it because nobody has found the NEED to do it - because people don't drive like they're on a racetrack when they're on the public highway.
Unless, of course, they're some chavvy wanker racing round the roundabouts in Birmingham. I'll put it like this : standard brakes (not even the MSport brakes) are perfectly good for the police 530d motorway and pursuit cars. If you need more than that, then some advanced driving lessons would probably be of far more benefit than fitting braided brake hoses and 'race-spec' brake fluid. |

Ok, that's fine, that's all I needed.
Also, I didn't ask for "race-spec" fluid, I specifically said "not track use". I am due my 2 year fluid replacement, and I like to know if I can use good quality items, that may also help my road experience. Standard brakes, for me anyway, are not good enough. That doesn't mean I drive like a chavvy wanker.

So apparently 1 litre should be enough. I'm going to go for either Motul RBF 600 or Tarox's own DOT 4 brake fluid.
Will try Tarox's brake hoses.

Goodridge braided hoses, some decent DOT5.1 fluid and EBC yellow pads are enough for some spirited driving

Thanks Steve.
Any real difference between DOT4 and DOT5.1, apart from the -40degC?

If they aren't good enough for you, then I think my earlier description stands. Remember, any idiot can drive fast enough to get themselves into a crash. |

Oh jeez, sure, ok.
I'm used to good brakes, on my Corrado VR6, to my GTR and other various cars. You can stick to your opinion, good for you.

I use ATE Dot4 in my car. Works very well with StopTech brakes and braided lines : stands-up well on track evenings, with no boiling of the fluid.
5.1 is high maintenance because it absorbs moisture at a faster rate and needs replacing more frequently. As with most things, think about what you need/want and pick products accordingly.

Increased braking capabilities are invaluable. You can try and predict road conditions all you like, but there's plenty of room for improvement beyond BMW standard brake setups.

Watsey, appreciate the advice. I think DOT4 is what I need.
I don't want to go for whole brake kits. I'll use these M Sport until next summer. If I'm satisfied then fine, otherwise I'll go with my tried and tested brand, Tarox. |

No problem. I've also tried EBC Yellow Stuff pads in BMW brakes but didn't really rate them. OK for moderate fast road use but personally I'd go for something with a higher heat rating - perhaps Ferrodo DS2500. Plenty of choice out there.

I've always had good experience with Tarox F2000 discs with the Strada pads, seem to cope with my requirements. That combination will be next step.

Always used ATE SL6 dot 4 fluid.
They have a racing version with a slightly higher boiling point --- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ATE-Super-...-/281442303870 1 litre does a change. |

Before I got my Alcon BBK I ran with braided hoses, EBC yellow stuff pads and some Motul RBF600 I think it was. Helped a bit and never had an issue on the road. Helped a bit on track, but not enough, as the brakes still went long and soft after just a few hard laps.

On track, are you still using Motul RBF600?
