Unable to select CD as source for music

This is a strange one and I don't know if it has ever worked, but:

The source button skips through DAB, FM Radio, Bluetooth Audio, AUX etc. but CD is never an option.

The only way I can get a CD to play is to eject it, re-insert it and allow it to then autoplay.

Anyone else have this?

In the idrive menu there is a list of outputs where you can select which ones you want to be displayed with the source button, so that you don't have to scroll through things you don't use. I suspect CD is not selected in there.

But all that disc storing/swapping and searching for tracks, for the sake of £10pm for Spotify!

Surely you only put the CD in once, then it's ripped onto the car's HD?

I use a USB stick. Easy enough the convert the tracks from a CD to mp3 and copy them to a stick.
Get loads of albums on a stick, saves faffing around with CD's in the car, I never use them.

Yes I do, to be honest I find the built in HD very difficult to navigate when driving.

I still can't find the setting that lists the outputs though!

You can scan them into Prof Media 20G as you know I'm sure.

Still something nice about a full album CD.

Might put a few in the car this weekend.

Just press 'media' on idrive controller and select CD/DVD:

Yep, either young driver mode or old driver mode!

You'll also find on the CD & radio mode the only radio stations available are classical, radio 4, smooth, absolute radio 60's & absolute radio 70's!

This is something I've never bothered to get to grips with in my car. If I use the Radio, CD, Media and/or USB external drive, my steering wheel mode switch will simply toggle between the last two used. Say CD and Radio. If I then go from Radio to Media, (music on the hard drive), it then toggles Radio and Media, leaves the CD out. This may be normal, will have to look into it, now that you asked the question.

I've had to reject the CD and reload to get it back on the iDrive menu. My car is a 2011 model, some kind of anomaly in how we use it? I don't know.

Yes that's exactly what I have, mode for me goes from radio to media but misses CD out even though I have a CD in. Only way I can play a cd is to eject it and insert it again.

As mentioned above I guess pressing the media button and then cd would do it. Just don't know why the mode (I called it source above) button doesn't do it.
