Android Spotify integration

I have an android phone, and i will not be changing to Apple any time soon. So, with the lack of android support from BMW/Spotify the only way to get full Spotify integration is to go Apple.

The solution for me was to buy an old iPhone 4s from eBay for £29 (inc postage), and leave it plugged in to the car permanently. The phone doesn't have a sim in it so i am relying on the iPhone to download the latest songs i have added to spotify when the car is parked up outside the house, as it can get the wifi out there. I've no idea if it will do this, if not i can just set it away and leave it when i've added new songs.

So far it seems to be working pretty well, and has the added benefit of not having to plug the phone in everytime i get in the car.

Great thinking outside of the box. My LCI F30 automatically streams Spotify from my Android via Bluetooth, but it might be that only the newer software allows you to do this.

Yeah mine can steam via Bluetooth, but this gives you full control via Idrive of playlists, gives you album art etc

android with spotify now works on the latest idrive 5/6 the same as an iPhone. It's a faff to set up but does function.

Apologies for bumping an old thread...

I'm looking at getting the new oneplus 5t but don't want to lose the spotify functionality of my iPhone.

Downloading songs on to an old iPhone would work ok but I was hoping to have an Internet connection for streaming too. How seem less would it be for the old iPhone to connect to the new android phone via tethering?

Also, assume any old iPhone will do? 4 onwards?

If you have ID5 or ID6, then it seems there is some form of spotify integration at moment. With my S7 Edge and the connected app I can control spotify on my phone using the iDrive. Albeit at the moment it is a bit buggy and can be prone to crashing without warning!

I don't have EBT no, I just have the connected app installed on my phone with apps enabled for the phone in the ID. Spotify was already installed on the phone and I just noticed that it was an option in media and in the connected drive menu.

Madness! I have the ConnectDrvie app install on my S7, with Spotify and when plugged into USB I see no Spotify option

Did you have to specify anything? USB mode as MTP for example? I've a '13 335Dx btw.

May have to pay the stealer a visit perhaps. Frustrating that it doesnt work, I've seen YT vids of people just plugging in iphones and it working but from what I read it was a problem with Samsungs, Androids....

I connect the USB, go to ConnectDrive, Application Assistance, seesm to 'sync' ConnectDrive app and calendar..... thats it.

I am doing it all over BT with mine, I have a 2016 340i. Which version of iDrive do you have? If you don't have ID5 or above it won't work as far as I know.

a 2013 335D most likely has ID4?

It is BMW Connected, it has a blue icon, currently rated 2.3*. Hope this helps, since I know the old connected app has been discontinued.

If you search "bmw connected app" it is the first result.

I will say it is still unstable, my app crashes quite frequently at the moment and I have no idea of the cause.

Good shout, I'll check, I'm sure I checked for updates through the idrive.

I just jumped onto https://legacy.bmw.com/bmw_next/mast...re_update.html and it seems the latest version available is UPD05074

and https://www.bmw.com/en/meta/compatibility-check.html

seem I have some checking to do. - thanks.

UPD05074 has been out for over a year, i hope they release a new one to fix the idrive and dab random crashes when connected to certain bluetooth devices

I do the same and use an old iPhone for mlaptimer and music. Apple and bmw clearly have an agreement not to support android which is a shame and most annoying.

Hurrah, it eventually works

My schoolie mistake was not realising that there was a new connected app, just binned the old one and installed the new and I'm much happier

But why keep 2 apps with the same name and similar functionality?
