440i GC Review - Joe Achilles
Quite a good review. Mentions the weight quite a few times. Do they feel that heavy? Maybe because he's used to an M Lite.

I took a 440GC and an Mlite out back to back. You can feel the weight difference, and as always, weight is a killer. But it's not an "extra few hundred kilo's" as Joe suggests, the 440iGC is 75kg heavier than a 340i. The Auto M Lite is not hugely lighter than a 340i, maybe 60kg?
Other than that he is spot on, the 440i GC felt softer and more muted to me too. I think the engine is a little toned down compared to M Lite, which doesn't help performance feel. |

He mentions that the GC is 1700kg. I thought the normal coupe was 1555kg so that doesn't seem right.

I think he makes fair points.
One of the reasons, why I'm buying a 4GC is that it's a pretty looking, very versatile car. And usually versatile cars are never just best at something if you know what I mean. If someone like Joe, who had a chance to drive proper M cars, says it's not a sports car I can understand that. If it was, there wouldn't be the M4 series On the other hand, he admits, it's very quick, quite agile but comfortable and surprisingly big inside which make a perfect all rounder. |

I've not watched yet but I had an M135i for 4 years before getting the 440i GC. There's nothing in it performance-wise - in fact the auto GC feels quicker than the manual M135i. But there's no getting away from the fact that the smaller car is wielder and just handles a twisty road a bit better. As you would expect and hope.
But the 440GC is as discussed far more versatile. The M135i is a car. The 440GC is two rolled into one. |
