Looks like a lot of work ... and I don't think this accessory retro-fit applies to us, as our cars are prewired for phone.
Good luck with your project, and please share pics!

I just got the connector installed today, costs around 450 Euro, a bit too steep for what it is but I thought it was too risky to fiddle with the ipod controls on the highway doing 160 (that's 100 miles plus you can control everything now. The sound quality is the same as CD and there's a small LCD panel mounted just above the console air vents on the dashboard. I'll post some pictures if anyone is interested.

Ipod connector with pictures
Here are the pictures I took this morning with the ipod connector. The pictures 2 and 3 are album and title. I like it quiete a lot, only thing I miss is that the display does not scroll. It is safe to use as the screen is at eye level.

From the instructions:
"These installation instructions are only valid for cars with SA 249 (multi-functional steering wheel), SA 662 (BMW Business CD radio) or SA 663 (BMW Professional radio) without SA 633 (Business mobile phone preparation), SA 638 (Professional car phone), SA 644 (universal charging/hands-free electronics) and SA 677 (Professional hi-fi system)" Is Business Phone preparation the same as the phone pre-wiring for all US e90s (main reason why we all have 'fins')...or does that refer to e90s with BT or ZPP?? Also I am guessing that L7 equipped e90s are excluded??

im gonna ASSUME, which is bad, that bmw will eventually release a even better system for Idrive. i cant imagine why they wouldnt. the screen is already there, the idrive knob is already there which happens to be almost identical to the click wheel on an ipod. there aleady looks like there should be a bunch more options on the "aux" menu on the idrive? what do you guys think, am i dreaming?

If you go to ipodyourbmw they announced that there will be a kit for the US e90 I think coming in July.
Doesn't say whether or not this is for i-drive. I have my finger's crossed. That i-drive knob was BUILT to control my ipod. |
