i have the stage one dinan tune and it certainly performs - love this car but wish it just sounded a little meaner; it's just a little bit conservative feeling from day to day. which is pro or a con depending on who you are, i suppose.

question is: who out there has taken the plunge? does it make it feel significantly angrier/more fun? it's $3K (installed) up here in canada. that's more than nothin! worth it?

Its a really good exhaust but 3k installed is outrageous.

We offer this exhaust, it will cost less than $1900 and install is no more than 2 hours.
Total should be 2k installed.

Even if you get the exhaust shipped from the US with all the costs, it wont be over $2400

thanks mike - 3K in canuckistanian bucks is under 2400 yankeebux - so seems pretty on par, and this is from a dinan cert. bimmer dealership. q really is how good is it!

I think it depends on how aggressive you want and how you use your car! There might be some performance gains you might feel with your butt dyno, but it's mainly going to be aural.

This is the sound clip of the full system:

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1409564

This has soundclips of just the midpipe replaced with Dinan's:

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1399984

Personally, I'm sticking with just the midpipe because the full Dinan exhaust deletes the valved system. My car is a daily driver so I want to retain the cruising mode vs. sport mode. If I want to be really loud, I hop in my open header V8 car.

Alternatively, you could do MPE and the midpipe to keep the valve, but it looks like it's a little extra work to get them to mate up.

Other option would be a Remus setup. I did catback Remus on my 240 and it allows the retention of the exhaust valve. even with a catless DP, the system is mild when in comfort mode, but switch to sport and gun it and it sounds like a bat out of hell. Definitely turns heads and sounds nice.

I vaguely remember what it sounded like with the stock cat, but I remember that at idle you didn't hear the exhaust at all unless right next to it. Under load it sounded mild.

Here's the video clips:

I'll chime in for mid-pipe only. I have that and the stage 1 tune. Sounds perfect to me. Aggressive and the pops and burbles are much more loud and pronounced. $500 experiment is all I needed to convince me that was enough. I loved the sound of the full Dinan exhaust, but for the $$, the mid-pipe only was hard to beat. I spent the rest on the stage 1 tuner.

I have a M240i as well and just went through the process of drilling down what exhaust setup I wanted. After countless hours of youtubing, and hearing exhausts in person...I can honestly say that the AWE touring exhaust and mid-pipe setup is the most intoxicating exhaust on the market for this car. I just ordered mine, so I'll post some videos shortly.

I have the Dinan Full exhaust. I did the muffler first, the sound was great, but when I installed the Mid-Pipe it was a whole new animal. The sound is absolutely incredible.

I was really worried that eliminating the exhaust valve would make the car too loud, but interestingly enough the car does a fantastic job of reducing noise on its own without the valve. Comfort vs Sport is significantly different.

Excuse my ignorance here, my M240 was just ordered, but what do y9ou mean by "deletes the valved system"?

Stock exhaust has an actuated exhaust valve which opens and closes when cold starting and going between comfort and sport modes. It allows comfort mode to be quiet and tame while sport and sport+ become louder with pops and gurgles. Dinan exhaust is open with no valve, which makes comfort mode louder, and some guys don't like the lack of stealth for a daily.

Same here. No need to replace the OE muffler.

FYI. In my tests, the valve is closed at cold start, opens after a short time and then stays open. It does not open and close on drive mode changes.
I think it's only purpose is to create more back pressure on cold start to help the cat get up to operating temp faster.

Ah thanks for the info.

From my checking around, it looks like the Remus and the OEM M Performance have the option to keep the exhaust valve actuator, if I'm reading it correctly.

Hey see I'm learning! My E46 330Ci ZHP has a Dinan exhaust but it's not nearly as loud as the modern ones. I think because of where I live I'll really want the ability to start it up in "stealth mode" so as to not wake the neighbors. haha

I just had the dinan midpipe and exhaust installed yesterday. It sound incredible. The overrun is so loud now and occurs way more often than with the stock exhaust. Everything about the sound of the car is significantly better now. The next step is removing the fake engine noise from the speakers.

Such a great sounding exhaust, get that fake noise coded out, and you will dig it even more!
