US/Canada Custom Suggestions?

I just bought a rear bumper from our fellow member on the forum, (private sales) and he shiped it to Bellingham, does anyone has any suggestions regarding getting through custom? because I dont want to pay a fortune on duty and tax

tell them is used and also tell the shipped to write the declared value cheaper..but don't lie except that..make sure you have a invoice or proof to show them...!!

make sure you have a written + signed invoice by the seller..
also, print out a price of the OEM rear bumper cost, this will be a backup just incase customs think your BSing about the cost.

Best way, tell the seller to mark the item as an "refurbished" item or clearance item. this way you can get away with a lower duty cost

There should be a shipping amount on the box.

come on man. For every $100, you are paying $5 in GST. How much was the bumper? $200? $300? more?

It isn't worth being the CC bad books for $15.

yea, no duty..just gst and pst. just pay it. cant imagine it to be more tha $50...save yourself the trouble.

automobile bumpers carry the tariff code 8708.10.10 which carries a 6% duty.

are the customs officers usually charging duty now?
the last 3 years they've been only doing taxes on all my clothes & japanese car parts

I crossed the border just this sunday (May 11) and did declare the rims I bought. I also noticed that they do keep tabs on when you left. So don't lie about being out of the country for a week or something.

+1 print the paypal statment. I used a print out of my order and the customs guy did accept it.

i crossed border last friday for rims too..make sure don't lie!!!

I think I remember someone saything that the customs now keep a log of the information of stuff sent to Pt. Roberts.

when i picked up my rims and tires, they didn't charge me for duties..just GST + PST!!and it's 123.32CAD that they charged me!!

there's really not much you can do man. just don't lie and pay the tax. if you get caught you'll have to pay like 100% duties or something and you get blacklisted, meaning that they'll check you everytime you cross the border again.

one of my frd lied to the custom when he picked up his rims..he got a fine ticket with $1300CAD!!!..and you have to pay right away, or else they gonna impound your car..he got blacklisted already!!
