Exclamation M240i Dyno day

I wanna tell you that today i put my stock M240i in the Dynapack Dyno with just Dinan Midpipe and the results are quite amazing:

384whp

638wt (Nm)

We dit it 3 times with the same results.

Another case of BMW underrating ?

PS: Premium 91 fuel.

slips or it didn't happen.

seems awfully high, like as if its complete BS.

Here is BMS's dyno, even with a jb4 its no where near your claim.

I'm sure he meant 384 BHP. Is he not in the US? (torque listed as Newton Meters). European dynos always show BHP somehow.

when have you ever seen 3 dyno runs produce the exact same numbers?

It doesn't happen like that.

It's a Dynapack dyno. Direct conection to the rear axle. And the numbers are expresed in whp (wheels horsepower) and NM.

That graph you showed it's a 340. Same engine than M240i's but factory detuned.

Tomorrow i'll upload the graphic.

So it's not BS.

It doesn't show the same numbers. The best run was 384whp and the other two 381 and 382whp, that's what i said "same results"

Your dyno is wrong sadly.

380whp is about 450bhp at the fly. Even with a free flowing downpipe it isn't happening.

My M140 UK car (Same as M240) on 99 octane fuel and decat downpipe made 380bhp 550nm at the flywheel. I even think this maybe a touch high but standard M1/240's here in the UK make around 350-360bhp bone stock. My car bone stock made 360bhp, again at the fly.

Just read it wasn't even a downpipe, it was a midpipe. Midpipes don't even give anymore power.

Maybe you should try another dyno.

Truthfully - comparing different dynos of different cars on different days on different types of dynos - is meaningless - in different countries even more so.

its all about the gains vs. baseline. That being said, there is no way this car is making those numbers on 91 with just a midpipe. The correction factor on this dyno is set high.

It is always about the delta. Agreed the correction factor could be off.

Dynapack reads pretty high generally. You're literally dynoing with the wheels off the car. Used one to tune my s2000.

Very consistent and safe dyno, but read pretty high compare to dyno jet.

Lol, BHP or "brake horsepower" is the same as crank horsepower. That would translate to probably mid 330's at the wheel, which is about what a stock B58 puts down in a 240i.

OP, don't let this discourage you, your car is still making great power!

384? Is that measured on the dreamometer 3000?

In Europe stock they dyno just under 300 at the wheels, or around 350-360 crank.

Good Lord what's with the ignorance in here? The dyno used in this instance was a Dynapack which mounts directly to the hubs (i.e., wheels removed). Compared to the more common Dynojet, the Dynapack will typically show about 10-12% higher power numbers. There's no BS here.

384 at the crank is more believable but even then the torque figure even at the crank is way off let alone at the wheel.

Take your car to the drag strip and if trap speed is 120mph or about then maybe. I very much doubt it.
