Post Sat Nav - Updating to 2017-2 Map Data (Europe)

Hi All,

I'm just making people aware there is updated European map data available for our Sat Nav's, albeit you need to locate it and download it from the Interweb.

My car came with Sat Nav map data NBT EVO version 2017-1 from new, although its set to auto update the car has never auto updated automatically.

Today, I downloaded BMW Road Map EUROPE EVO 2017-2 and manually installed it without issue (no security codes were required for the update). On the Connected Drive Store updates are included until 2020.

The download is around 30GB, which I copied to a newly formatted (exFAT) 64GB USB Data Traveller stick, plugged it into the centre console and went into the Sat Nav settings when you select the current version it prompts to say there is a newer version available on USB media, and asks you if you wish to update it. When you click the acknowledge, it then starts to copy the data (you may need to power off / power on the engine before the data copy starts):

Then, Once completed:

*** Please note: I did this with the engine running, taking the car for a drive once the update started until the update completed. Timescales for the update maybe 20 - 30mins ?? ***

Now my Sat-Nav Map Data shows: Road Map EUROPE 2017-2:

Rgds

Having trouble in that it seems that the new version is not being found on the USB stick.

I assumed that you unpacked the download on your Mac/PC. After doing that I see a folder named "Road_Map_EUROPE_EVO_2017-3". Did you just leave everything in this folder and copy the complete folder (rather than its contents) to the USB.

For info the current Version information shows :

Road Map EUROPE EVO 2016-2
NBTevo_L17163l

then:

Automatic map update:
GB, IE 2017-3

I was driving from Devon to Bristol the other week and half way through the journey I get a message on the iDrive screen that there is an update available for the navigation system.

I selected to continue with the update, as it warns that the navigation system needs to be restarted if I choose to start the update.

I'm not sure what exactly was updated, but I highly doubt that the car downloaded 30GB of data during the journey!

I downloaded the zip on Windows 7 laptop, extracted the files onto newly formatted 64GB USB Stick , left the structure as is and the file structure looks like:

and within the folder named 1 -

Hope this is helps.

Yep, I would agree it is unlikely to download 30GB as you say. That said, the Sat-Nav as not yet asked me to update it. (and I'm impatient - hence the manual update).

2017-3 available.
Updated 10 minutes ago using USB stick.
I was getting unzip0077 error when trying to extract maps onto a USB memory using BMW Download Manager although using FAT32 file system. Had to manually extract the zip file located in the user home directory: %userprofile%\bmw-dlm\dl

The file/directory tree on the USB stick:

Don't panic when iDrive shuts down after idle timeout during the update. The process won't be interrupted, so just turn the iDrive on.
