M2/Chicagoland Area

I'm taking PCD next Wednesday, and taking the road trip back.
Wondering who in the area..
1-had your M2 tinted, who did you use, what product and would you recommend?
2-had your M2 clear wrapped with Xpel (or equivalent), and who did you use and would you recommend?
Thanks!

I used Nino at Umbra for my R56, F22 and will be in my F87 once I can confirm my redelivery date.

Fair prices and the biggest benefit for me is he does it during an appointment slot so you can stay with the car and watch the work. This works well for me since he's not really in drop off range.

Did you have a ceramic or other paint coating applied there too?

Yes, I got opti-coat pro. I will recommend chicago auto pros. They often do highend cars and are pretty professional. You can check their insta account for pictures. You might find my LBB out there somewhere :d

Chicago Auto Pros Glenview hands down. One of the most professional, knowledgeable and friendly detailing places I've been. They will make sure you are happy with the work everytime. Definitely check them out.

Did my Xpel and coating with them. Also show up at least twice a month for their very reasonable priced hand wash.

I've always gone to Nino @ Umbra. He's tinted mine and my wife's cars (05 WRX, 11 Mini Cooper S, 03 E46 M3, 12 Golf R and 14 CLA 45 AMG). He's tinted my cousins cars and a bunch of my friend's cars.

As you can already tell from the comments above, he's awesome. If there are any issues, he's really quick to fix or replace the tints.

Only thing is when I asked him about the matrix dots, his suggestion was to put black vinyl. When I searched and wanted to either shave/sand down the dots and glue he wasn't comfortable doing that. At least he's honest and tells you up front.

I know he does PPF but I believe they are laser cut and therefore will have minor mm thin gaps, instead of wrapping around the hood etc.

Thanks. Had a typo in my original post. I have an E36 M3 and never had an E46 M3. I did also have a 2001 E46 330 which I didn't list because it was tinted in Florida while I lived there.

Any F87 Owner with an MPE installed in Chicagoland?

Have ordered an M2 a few weeks back, with delivery expected 3rd week of April 2018. I still have the option of adding the MPE before it hits the VPC in Baltimore. I have spent dozens of hours in forums and on Youtube on the MPE sound and also the issues it supposedly has (vibration, drone, drain hole in the newer version, etc.). I came to the conclusion that a down pipe would be the best sounding option for my taste, but I don't want to void the warranty, hence I will not change the down pipe. That is why I am still contemplating to just add the MPE, but I would want to listen to it myself in person. None of the dealerships around here has one on the lot, so I was wondering whether any M2 owner from the sub-forum in the Chicagoland area has one installed (without any other modifications like downpipe), so I can make a decision. I like the sound of the stock exhaust, but want to up it a little, but want to be sure it is not to loud/obnoxious for my taste (also considering that I live in a townhouse with close by neighbors). Any help/offer of a life demonstration would be much(!) appreciated, would be happy to meet close to wherever that M2 owner lives.

If you're willing to spend the cash go for it. It is absolutely unbelievable sounding. I heard one at the MPE center when I picked up my car. I didn't want to spend the $s on it though since it is sound effects only with no performance improvement.

I was helping my dad find a spot to get a full front clip clear bra in Xpel and 3m window tints. We ended taking his m2 over to prestige auto spa. They do some descent work. Parts weren't taken off so it's not a seamless job. I'm not sure how many other places are doing this though. Tints have a few minor scratches but this might have been caused by us. I'm not really to sure.

Probably not the most quiet thing on a cold start. Shakes our kitchen floors for the first couple minutes.

I had my tint done at ABT.

Xpel for front bumper and full coating done at Chicago Auto Pros in Glenview.

Both were great experiences.

Cheers,
Jimmy

I have a 2017 Performance Edition M2 with MPE fitted. I’m on the NW side of Chicago, and happy to take you for a ride.

I also have a fabspeed downpipe waiting to get installed, so you may be able to get a before and after in the next couple weeks.

For the folks that got the ceramic coating done up in Glenview, what does that even run from a price standpoint?

I am tempted to but the AMMO version of ceramic coating and do it myself, unless the price is reasonable to have a pro do it.

I got a quote a few weeks ago for $1,495 plus additional $75/hour for paint correction. They estimated the paint correction to be between $300-$500 in total and this is for a brand new car. So you will run in total between $1,800 and $2,000. This does include the full wheels and calipers.
