First "OFFICIAL" M3 specific Brembo BBK installed
I want to thank Jaime, Gary and the whole crew at Brembo for all of their help and support with this project. This is the first kit in N/A to be installed and the first from Brembo made specifically for our M3.
IMPRESSIONS: My initial impressions are based on just less than 1000 miles, mixing highway and city driving, and after a proper bedding-in under the supervision of Brembo's product specialist. I am planning on making the trip up at month end to Willow Springs for the upcoming BMWCCA event, so we will have some more impressions, particularly regarding fade, soon. The car does feel quicker overall and I suspect that may be due to the reduction in weight with the swap. I just picked up the OEM brake assembly from Brembo an hour ago. I am fixing to get them weighed here this afternoon to compare to the BBK. I will post the results on lucid's weight reduction thread in the General Forum. Stopping is now entirely different with the Brembos. It is not as sensitive on initial input with the pedal as with the OEM. There now seems to be depth to the braking action which is nicer, giving you more feel. I have had no fade issues as of yet, but haven't taken it to the track either. Stopping power seems limitless. June 1st's upcoming BMWCCA event will bring more insight as I plan on putting them to the test then. Brembo has calculated the heat loads generated on the stock brake system and determined that the 380 x 34 on the front and 380 x 28 on the rear best handle the demands placed on the M3. These, along with stainless steel lines make up the specific kit Brembo has introduced for the car. The kit will fit with the OEM 19" wheels with 3mm clearance (min. req'd) between the closest point of conflict (the wheel balance weight) on the wheel and the caliper. I chose the drilled over the slotted since the car will only be tracked a few times a year initially. As an option, you can select the slotted rotors which provide a more even heat/cooling cycle which track users will prefer. The drilled rotors will tend to cool faster and are generally more suited for street use. ...more to come. ...More info from Gary at Race Technologies...UPDATED 12.08... HERE and HERE

Kudos to you OC Kid on where you have taken your M to. I am not a big mod fan (although a look at my Jeep would make me a liar) but have to say everything you have done from the brakes to the lip are incredible. Glad to hear the performance of the brakes surpass the killer looks.

Great mod, great pics but statement such as the above seriously challenge your credibility. Are you serious? Talk about imagined performance. You can not feel a brake mod on a 3700 lb car with 400+ hp, especially when there is not really much difference (if any) between the stock vs. aftemarket weight.

so its like having a LIGHTER Wheel, and theoritically, it means less mass to be spin by the engine.just like when you have lighter Flywheel. Remember he change ALL FOUR WHEEL DISC Brake. The reduction in weight all add up. so I believe him when he say the car fell faster, perhaps if he say the car is more RESPONSIVE... it would be more correct... because the top speed of the car might still be the same, but the car do accelerate faster/more responsive to accelerator input. I do not think it challenge his credibility at all... Now if he put a FAKE BREMBO cover on top of his OEM brake then post it here then say the brake is real BREMBO, that would challenge his credibility... |

I have yet to see that the Brembo rotors are lighter than stock. OC claimed he weighed everything but I have not seen the numbers. They must be darn weak if they are lighter. Both Brembo and stock are aluminum hats and vented and cross drilled cast iron for the rotors. Brembo diameter is larger 380 vs. 361 and thicker 34 vs 30. Those are measurements for the front, OEM M3, rear rotors are even smaller. I'd bet anything the Brembo rotors are heavier. That is not at all ALL bad. They are brakes and their job it to stop, last long and not fade and they will likely do great there. Calipers are probably heavier too those 6 pistons calipers are loooong and large. All that being said EVEN IF the rotors and calipers were a bit lighter say a few pounds per wheel YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FEEL IT. Can you feel a 20 lb package in your back seat in a 400+ hp car that weighs 3700 lb. NOPE, not possible! Sorry purity and sorry OC. This is a credibility issue at worst and simply wishful thinking and being blinded by the bling at best. Being so negative (factual...) I will say this again as well. Beautiful car, beautiful brakes and very likely a super powerful and fade resistant set up. |

Swamp2,
I do not know that the OEM M3 brakes HAT are aluminum. I thought they are steel like regular E90 brakes. If the OEM M3 brakes hat are aluminum too, then you are most probably right, and I am wrong. The Bigger Brembo rotor is surely heavier then standard M3 rotors then if both have aluminum hat... |

I'm beginning to question your "credibility"...
The above-captioned statement is completely false. The OEM's are still packed in the boxes from Brembo. I do have a life and a business, and have been unable to set aside the time to weigh them yet as I had hoped. Just what is your angle here swamp? Are you serious? If you re-read my post you may notice that the word "feel" is italicized. As a refresher for you, writers will sometimes use italics to put emphasis on a word. You, of all people should realize that "feel from the seat of your pants" and "the real numbers" don't always correspond. This was an initial impression, not a spec or stat. Let me get the systems weighed before you start the attack. As a reasonable person, I'll wait to see if the weight comparison corroborates/validates my initial impression or not.

I just pm'd him lol. I am getting this for sure. Now it is Eisenmann or the Amuse Ericsson exhaust debate.
Do I splurge on the Amuse? Or go Eisenmann SPORT (Dont like the loud DB of the RACE). In my heart I want the Amuse Ericsson lol, but in my head I should get the Eisenmann. Ok, which is better? (money is no objection to me) Last edited by Greenspotpop; 05-12-2008 at 11:40 PM.. Reason: spelling |
