Catless downpipe and CEL

Hi,

I want to get a catless downpipe but I want to clear the CEL code before I bring my car in for service. What are my best options in the market? Will the JB+ Beta ($199) offered by BMS clear the code?

Note: I don't want the JB4.

Thank you members

While I may be wrong, I do not believe the JB+Beta will clear codes. That being said - check this thread from the F30 forum.

Read the forum before you ask another question.

Anything you want to ask has literally been asked and answered 3 times already.

If you don't want any codes, get a flash tune.
If you want to run a jb+ or dinan sport tune, get a catted down pipe so you don't get a cel.

lol even if you clear the codes, your car will not pass emissions You need to change it back to OEM, clear codes, and drive through a full "drive cycle".

The only state in which he won't pass emissions is any state that uses a sniffer. As long as there's no CEL present and OBD2 readiness monitors are in a ready state, the car will pass with a catless dp. He's in Toronto so not sure if they use sniffers or not.

You'll never make it into ready state with a catless DP and clearing the codes.. By the time it get's into a drive cycle it will throw a cat efficiency code and your boned. Clear it, and you start all over...
It's simple get an HJS 200cell catted downpipe, they work great Many can attest to their lack of code throwing.

There are no HJS 200 cell catted downpipes for the B58 yet.

They claim +21 whp and +36 tq. Is that not accurate?

These numbers are very close to catless DP .. Highly doubt it can be achieved with 300 CEL

But with the JB4 there is no code to be cleared. Guess I wasn't clear that I was referring to a catless dp and JB4 together. The JB4 supresses the code from ever coming up. OBD2 readiness monitors read ready and there are no codes. On the other hand, the JB+ will not suppress the code.

I think you misunderstand that feature. It just auto-clears the codes very quickly every so often, it does not "suppress" them or stop the underlying o2 efficiency issues. It just continuously clears them which keeps CEL off. It's a very simple feature. A piece of tape or a blindfold is about the poor mans equivalent.

Once you remove the JB4, you lose that feature, even before your drive cycle, you will get a CEL, and O2 readiness will never finish. Have you actually passed in NY or MA with a catless DP ?!?

A jb4, or any piggy back will never get you this.
Some flash tunes don't even give you green across the board, ready to pass.

And IIRC, the system stores this info, so the factory can/will download history and know you have been monkeying w/ the system, even if you set it back. Should be fully understood that once you crack into the ECU or add hard parts, you are off the grid in terms of warranty (and unlike your friendly gov't agency, they actually devote real time and intelligence to the task).

The more I read up on it, I guess you're right. It won't read ready. In NYS however, you're allowed one readiness monitor to be in a "not ready" state on a 2001 or newer vehicle and still pass. Does anyone know how many readiness monitors will read not ready with a catless DP? Haven't done one yet, but an ER has my name on it.

My JB4 just died on me wish there was another alternative, don't really need the extra power and I feel it kind of silly to pay $500 just to clear a CEL. Won't be keeping the car for longer than a year so I'm debating if I should just go back to stock
