Which suspension to get?
Hi Guys,
just wanted some advice, i want to replace the stock suspension with a tuner suspension as i think the car sits a little too high and also there is still too much body roll for me in the corners, i find myself hanging onto the steering wheel for dear life sometimes when cornering at highspeed so i want to get a full Suspension kit, now i just want to know which one! i do like the look of the Eibach B12 Sportline springs + shocks but like i said i am no expert. i just want to have a better experience driving this car. if i describe my driving its during the week nothing extream then weekends lots of twisties, fast corners ( where the body roll bothers me ) and a lot of back end sliding. thanks! Kris. |

Def KW Variante 3, unless you track your car a lot in which case I'd go for the KV Variante 3 Clubsport.
I track my car every so often, but Variante 3 will be good enough for me. |

Q: What are the details of the M2 M Performance Suspension? A: It is a non-adaptive, 2-way adjustable (rebound and damping) full coilover kit with custom strut and springs, manufactured by KW to BMW M's specs. It's also been tested on a four post rig and at the Nurburgring. Lowering range drops the car anywhere from 5mm to 25mm. Note that it's actually 3-way adjustable (rebound, damping and height). |

Thanks for the link...assuming the thought is the V3 are the DA and therefore base/foundation for the M Performance Suspension? Or has that actually be confirmed?

It's across the BMW and mini range, the JCW Pro suspension my car had recently was rebadged KW, the mini version however is not DA, just height adjustable. Quality was superb and of course ride transformed, even in the (v2s ?) I was very impressed. I am 100% certain M Perf are also KW just to confirm they are V3 and DA from someone who has them?

Other than that it features a setup by BMW M which includes other springs to, according to BMW, not only get the best ride quality but also a maximized longevity.

QUOTE] Mini Challenge suspension was by Nitron, their R1 kit has all the bells and whistles c/w a price tag to match. Nitron working on R1 kit for F8x series - no doubt it will be the mutz nutz as this outfit has a huge rep. http://www.nitron.co.uk/catalogue_it...1&prodID=87644 For the harder core and wealthier M2 owners they also do a R3 kit.... http://www.nitron.co.uk/catalogue_it...1&prodID=87645

Bilstein also offers quality suspension kits as an alternative to products from M Performance, KW, and Ohlins. The Bilstein B16 is roughly comparable to the Ohlins R&T setup (adjustable compression/rebound through single knob).

Running into the same question as well, but are there any track specialist out there that can sort of describe the following brands/models?
I use the M2 for open back roads and occasional track days, it's not my daily so I'd like to focus more on performance and handling over comfort. Durability is also important. That being said, I got some brands on my mind: KW V3 / Clubsport 3Way Ohlins DFV for M2 Intrax 1K2 for M2 JRZ (do they have the M2 spec yet?) Thanks! |

Guess I am in the minority but I am extremely happy with the Dinan suspension setup. Wouldn't call it a "coilover" in the sense that I think of it but the overall daily ride is much improved. I don't use the M2 as a track car so I can't speak to that but it did feel much more stable on a late night run over Ortega Highway a few nights back. Like some have reported I can personally attest that it does indeed give a much more comfortable ride in daily driving conditions.
I had originally planned to go the Ohlins route as I use them on almost every street bike I have but decided to try Dinan as a "one size fits all" type of application. Not that its hard but I like not having to readjust settings depending on driving conditions. Not knocking Ohlins, KW, or the MP offerings as Im sure in a pure track setting they would leave me behind. But for the price and what I was looking to accomplish the Dinan setup has worked out perfectly

The best part is I focus on myself, driving inputs, and being smooth vs spending time thinking about/adjusting suspension. This setup had me running 2:13s at Watkins Glen on RE-71Rs. Adjustable suspension wouldn't gain you any more time over something like the Dinan setup unless you're a seasoned driver who can fully exploit the limits of the car, knows the track well enough to determine which corners you can pick up time in (while compromising other corners), and you're making adjustments as track conditions change. Even if you fall into this camp (most of us don't), there are other areas where much more time can be had. Just my $0.02. Last edited by ZM2; 08-06-2017 at 03:37 PM.. |

With proper selection of spring rates, the Ohlins can give a better ride than stock but still give you much better control of the suspension. |

I'm doing both with my car - daily&track - and went with the KW Clubsport 3-way coilovers.
TO ME, the suspension works perfect! For sure, it's slighty stiffer than standard, but the increase of handling and response is worth every cent of it! Maybe this is also an option to you instead of V3 or Öhlins. My Setup for daily use is: front: camber -2,15° Compression fully open Rebound 8 clicks open rear: camber -1,45° Compression high-speed 2clicks open Compression low-speed 1click open Rebound 8 clicks open Spring rates are standard. |
