Shop charged me how much for upgrades??

So i live in california and there arent really any good performance shops around my area so i found a very trustworthy in the san francisco area shop that looks they know what they are doing. Was looking to dci and chargepipe with bov and they charged me $450 for labor only no parts. I really dont have anytime to do it myself and this is my first bmw (335i), i came from having fords all my life. Was looking to go in and out. Dont want to order online becuase when i get the parts they are probably just gonna sit there until i find some time. Should i just take it to the shop and be done with it or should i find a weekend in my schedule to do it?

$450 for labor is ridiculous IMO. Get on youtube and search, these are both easy DIYs.

those are some of the easiest mods to tackle. definitely do it yourself. Also, that price is crazy!

$450 for an hour, maybe 1.5 hours of labor...??? That's craziness. And that's if you didn't know what you were doing and took your time, with a beer or two somewhere in there. Like these guys said, easy DIYs...

Find another shop and get a second quote if you really want a shop to do it for you.

Sounds to me like they don't know what they're doing or taking you for ride.

Wow

Honestly, being a car enthusiast should involve getting your hands dirty.

What exactly is the purpose of this thread? Like, are you asking for permission or trying to find out if that's a good price, or..??

Sounds like they may be charging book time.

However an enthusiast shop who knows what they are doing would likely charge 1 to 1.5 HR.

Labor rates vary from shop to shop and the area. Expect about ~$100/Hr

$450 to unscrew and tighten 3 bolts, put a c-clip on and put a few vacuum lines on, seems legit.

If time is your issue. Its taken you more time to deal with this shop than this install would have taken.

If you plan on modifying your car and can't do some simple wrenching / troubleshooting, you are going to put a giant dent in your wallet. Next thing you know you will be asking if $500 is a good labor rate for swapping out your plugs and coils. This community is a very large one and very helpful for DIY. Since you live in California, I suggest joining your local FB group and you will find people who are willing to help you do some mods for a much lower price.

I got quoted 1000 dollars! For similar mod list, I never laughed so hard! I went home cracked a couple beers and installed it myself( DCI, charge pipe, FMIC, and downpipes).

Edit- tiles thought I read you had a fmic also, that's a robbery.

That's way too much. DCI and CP should be $200 max.
