M240i NAV dead
Well... I ran some errands at lunch today and everything was great. I get back in the car to leave work and the NAV is completely dead. No screen, no backlight, no sound, buttons do nothing.
Anyone seen this one before? Fuse perhaps? I did some light searching and didn't see anything. Looks like a dealer trip is in my near future. First one for the new car @ 2800 miles. |

Update: Fired it up this morning and the NAV came up as normal. Kinda weird but I'll take it. This is probably going to be one of those deals where if it happens again, take it straight to the dealer while proof is in hand.
I have no issues with the service my dealer provides. They have always been good to me. |

We had this happen in our E61. Eventually it meant a new CCC unit.

They may not like it, but how does BMW or any company release something that can't stand up to Texas heat? Don't they sell these things in the Middle East, where it's hotter?

I'm just saying if it was really hot the head units tap out. Most likely it won't happen again unless it's expose to extreme heat |

It was pretty hot but nothing too crazy. Car is white with oyster leather. Has 3M clear film on the front window and FormulaOne Stratos on the rest. Even have Stratos on the sunroof. I put this car together to be a cool as possible in the Texas heat. I will report back if it acts up again. :/

True, but the iPhone heat is from usage, not from sitting in area that's just hot. The guy went out during lunch, then after work, when he started his car, it was dead. This should not be happening. And if it's happening, it's an engineering flaw.

Maybe they should have put a bigger fan or something. I'm not defending why they did it, I'm just stating what happens |

That's an engineering flaw then too... But I've never seen that happen or heard of it happening, where the phone doesn't work from just sitting in a hot car.

Still, I say the BMW NAV issue is a flaw, especially compared to the iphone. The NAV can't be removed from the car and is built in.. If BMW doesn't realize the interior of a car gets hot, it's a problem. Where most people take their smartphone with them. Also, it seems the iphone will start working again if left in the car, once the interior temp drops... From what I'm I'm reading about the NAV, it only comes back on, if you're lucky, after a off/on cycle.

Just to follow up on this thread that I started, I haven't had the dead nav issue since posting HOWEVER a couple days ago I fired the car up and again, dead NAV.
FYI the last time this happened I did not take it to the dealer, it 'repaired' itself after a while. The car had been sitting in the garage overnight and it was a cool spring day outside. I left it in the garage and took a different vehicle to run errands. I tried it again later in the afternoon and the NAV came back and has been good for the last week. Really odd. Anyway, just thought I would throw in an update. |

Don’t forget that there is also the possibility of software bugs, when dropping it off for the next service mention this and ask them to update the car to the latest I-level.

Not gonna read through all the replies.
In Florida we see it...somewhat often... If the sun is hitting on that screen just right for to long it'll overheat and force it to shut down. Also check the voltage on your battery. As many know. BMWs like to shut stuff down in a particular order depending on battery voltage. If the car sat for a while and didn't turn on initially then after driving it and returning it back on it worked. I can only assume low battery. Causes some WEIRD issues on BMWs |
