328i Speakers Crackling

Noticed when the car was first bought that the speakers cracked at higher volumes; bought a BavAuto base kit and it still crackles, this car has the base stereo system so lacks an amp. What would cause the crackling ?

If you have an iPhone try turn the volume down a touch from max. I had this problem and it was driving me crazy

It's probably distortion since you don't have an amp sending power from the speakers. It could also be interference if your phone is plugged into the 12V port while playing music. Either getting a 4-channel amp or a different head unit would probably make the distortion go away completely. I have a 328i with hi-fi system (adds an amp) and I get no crackle at any volume so the amp is probably the issue.

There was a recall on some pro radios for noise problems.
There is a thread on this forum somewhere that documents it.
The base system has very little power and no audio system
should be run at max volume.

Check that there's nothing (coins, French fries, other debris) that has fallen through the underseat grills, and is now vibrating on top of the underseat speaker.

There is a problem with our radios. seems the volume knob gets messed up and causes all sorts of problems. with mine it cuts out the driver door speaker. you can wiggle the volume knob and see what i am talking about. i now leave my volume knob alone and only use my steering wheel volume controls. i bought the bavsound speakers too and i thought they sent me a blown speaker.
