UK market: M550i or M550d or nothing?
Hi folks,
Congratulations to all taking delivery of the G30!! Does anyone have any solid info on which M performance model the U.K. is getting? BMW clearly is making a strategic move to introduce such models because of the appeal they have to customer not wanting/can't afford a full M model..... Any help appreciated ..... I'm waiting for the range of models before a decision :-)

I have also asked my dealer numerous times before ordering a 540i instead of a 540d or 500d.
He tells me each time that neither is coming to the UK in the 'foreseeable future'..... It will be interesting to see what happens in July......as the German configurator is still not showing the 540d or 550d yet |

But equally BMW seem committed to introducing M performance models too. I think by early 2018 we will have a much clearer idea of the lineup. It's still very early days given the launch was in just Feb Thanks for your reply mate

Having had the 530d for a while now I can't see why anyone would need anything faster. It's arguably faster than it needs to be already. Do we really need such speed and power on public roads? I'm not convinced.

I think it had something to do with them not wanting to produce right hand drive versions

Oh come on lol Since when did many members here and further afield purchase cars based on "need"? People buy cars like M models because they admire and appreciate them. Or they've worked very hard and those cars are one "fun" way of enjoying the success they've worked for. I think if you reduce the argument to just "need" then you may as well just buy something very basic and perhaps not even a BMW at all ? Why drink juice when you can just have water ? In a nutshell Your point about public roads is a valid one. However, speed isn't the only menace, bad driving skills at lower speeds is a major problem.

I see how you've misinterpreted what I've said. I simply mean that even for fun one doesn't need anything faster on public roads. It's stupidly fast already - what more fun do you have getting to higher speeds quicker or going around blind turns faster?
To each his own I guess. Was just my tuppence. |
