335d Standard brakes vs M Sport brakes

I've placed my order for 335d Touring and am having a bit of a squabble with myself regarding the brakes. I'm wondering if the £570 price (I haven't gone for plus pack) is worth it considering the 335 has larger brakes as standard compared with the 320d. I'm considering getting my order changed whilst I can, as they admittedly do look better and seem to have a better hub on them, which looks like it may last longer before it starts looking unsightly with corrosion. Is there much of a difference?

I know it costs a lot more to have them retrofitted afterwards if you regret not speccing them.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking!
But my wallet tells me that a little more substance other than aesthetics is required

That's what I'm trying to find out really ... The M Sport ones have blue calipers and look pretty smart, although the standard ones seem to be similar size.
I wondered whether the M Sport ones performed better.

I believe front callipers are the same just not painted blue, although m sport discs are slightly larger (340mm vs 370mm off hand).

At the rears you get better callipers and bigger discs if I remember rightly.

Hubs are also alloy so don't rust the same way as standards

Worth the 500 quid I think

I have driven both but I couldn't tell the difference. I suppose if they are upgraded parts if you were on the track you would notice the difference quiet quickly.

Why aren't you getting the shadow line pack? I think my least favourite of it's options are the brakes, the rest of th MS+ bits are essential imo.

I've often wondered that. I was unsure about whether to spec these for my 330d. Did in the end because I liked the idea of having stronger brakes. But what swayed me in the end was the look. For me, they significantly improve the look.

What I can say is that the MSport brakes bite like hell. What I can't say how much better they are than the standard brakes because I have never driven one with. I've asked this question before and have never had a straight answer. The standard brakes certainly more than adequate, otherwise they wouldn't be standard.

this!

Personally I'd pay the £500 for the cosmetics of the m-sport brakes, the standard ones on an m-sport car just look unfinished and the painted calipers completes the look.

Alternatively save you money and get the m-performance ones.

Had them on my old 335d and I thought they were good but not outstanding. Needed a fair bit of pressure to apply the brakes still

I'd get them as part of a pack like the M Sport+ pack but no way I'd pay nearly £600 for them!!
I'm sure the standard brakes are fine.

I found coming from standard brakes (albeit a 318d) to M sport ones a massive difference. The standard ones always felt like there was too much travel to come to a stop where as the m sport ones bite instantly. I have a lot more confidence in them now.

I think there was a maser cylinder upgrade at the LCI.

The blue brakes are nice and progressive and we're also on my previous car. But, initial bite seems better on my LCI.

Either way, both brakes will stop you fine on the road. Tyre grip will be the limiting factor unless your pulling multiple huge braking events...

But, they certainly look pretty.

That's interesting, mine was a pre-LCI so maybe not as good as now.

I've ordered 18" wheels, the 398's with non run flat Michelin super sports as standard, as I have 403m 19's with runflats on my 320d X Drive Touring (Pre LCI) at the moment and they are a bit harsh, although I have ordered every thing else on the plus pack except 19" wheels and brakes. I do like 19's to look at (but hate cleaning them!) If I knew that 19's had a smooth enough ride on non run flats I would change to shadow, as those new 704's look immense!

Thanks to everyone for all the useful input .... conclusion?

Going to get the M sport brakes!

New dilemma ...

Shadow pack or just brakes

Oh and an off topic morsel ... This forum has solved another issue for me .... I had the creaking doors, when I read about it on here, contacted dealer and it's now fixed with the tape ... What a difference!!

Definitely shadow pack! The little wheels and standard sound system are plop! And every car needs window tints. Also if you're going to sell the car in a few years it will make it worth more and easier to sell.

How about shadow pack and Adaptive Dampers?...

Pack may save enough to make this cost neutral.

I've had 403M's and 442M's now. 442M's are much easier to clean. Adaptive dampers gave a reasonable ride with both.

My existing order is (was!):
335d Touring M Sport - Estoril Blue
Adaptive
HK Sound
Media Professional
Orbit Grey 398's with std non run flat michellin super sports
Heated front seats
sun protection glass
hi beam assist
sliding armrest
storage pack
Windscreen grey band

After some consideration I think I'm going to see if I can change to shadow pack and live with the runflats until they're done.

Have planned to do ACS Springs straight away too

Definitely makes sense to get shadow pack as you've already specced most of the components of the pack, and those 398's really aren't great looking wheels!
