Change from Single Exhaust Tip to Twin Tips
I recently bought 320i Executive (in Australia) but the car hasn't been delivered yet.
It has a single chrome exhaust tip but I am just wondering if I can install twin exhaust tips (either aftermarket or OEM). If anyone has an idea, please advise. Regards, aussie79 |

No you can't just install the twin exhaust tips. You'll need to install the whole exhaust to get it. You can probably do it, but it might lower your car's power.

Buy a Remus, Eisenmann,Hartge or Acschnitzer exhaust and youll get twin pipes, and this will also give a nice sound.

I haven't heard a good exhaust sound on the 320i.
I wonder how Remus will sound. If you are going for sound, i'd go for GruppeM first. |

Funny I was thinking of doing the same thing. Will this void the warranty if I just change the single tip (just the tip) with an aftermarket twin tail pipe type?

i've heard supersprint, arqray, and bluewave and another one which I don't remember. My friend kept on changing the exhaust cause it sounded just like the OEM and just gave up.
I wonder how eisenmann would sound like though. Spending 1000 dollars just for the looks of a twin pipe is IMO a bit too much. |

Hello all ,
I am a new member and will be a new e90 owner in 1 week It make a bit more than one month that I am waiting for my new car, this start to make long... I did post a question similar to the one of this thread in an other forum section but obiviously there are less forum members visiting this part of the forum My e90 is a 320d without particle filter and as mentioned by other owners the downturned exhaust is not that nice. So I am planning to change it and I was starting to look for aftermarket exhaust tip, only issue my dealer is quite far from my place and there not that much e90 were I live, so I could not find the size of the stock exhaust of the 320d... Could some one tell me the diameter of the exhaust tail pipe if he knows it or may be go to his car and measure it for me, that would be very nice I found a picutre on the internet showing the exhaust of 320d (or a 320i) from the bottom apparently the pipe becomes oval only at the end so the diameter of the pipe might be smaller few centimers before the end of the pipe. If I cut the downturned end I might end up with a circle and not an oval. You can see it on the picture. I am also planning to put a Y connector to have twin exhaust tip, look's better for me. I don't know what size would be the best I don't want something too big... I was thinking of 2* 70mm or 2* 76mm. Can you show me some pictures of a e90 with that kind of aftermarket exhaust tips? I think on the 330 by default it is 2* 70mm? Thank you in advance for your replies!

Hello
I went to a shop for aftermarket exhaust tips yesterday evening and I found 2 of them that looks good and are good quality product. one is 2 * 70mm (2.75 inches) and the other is 2 * 76mm (3 inches) The issue is for the inlet size, those tips are made for pipe of max (63 mm) 2.5 inches, and i still don't know the size of the pipe on the 320d e90. It would be very nice is someone with a 320d or 320i could measure the pipe max diameter (before it becomes an oval) on their car.

Me as well I will soon received my 320d and I don't have the particle filter.
I would also be interrested by some more information on an exhaust tip. If you find some answers or do it please post the pictures on the forum Thanks!

The single exhause pipe on the 320d without the particle filter is turned downwards, meaning that fitting a generic aftermarket straight tip is almost impossible. Having the particle filter helps, but only a bit, because although the tip is straight, it is large and oval shaped. Cutting off the particle-filter pipe before it becomes oval is a possibility, but I think you will need an extra long tip.
Another way to get round the problem is to fit a new backbox with straight round tips. I did this on my old e39 530d, but I wasn't entirely happy with the result (it looked kind of artificial and the smoke was more visible when I accelerated). There will also be issues with the contrôle technique, because non-filter diesels must have downturned pipes in the EU to be road legal (I sold my e39 before I was required to take the test, so I never found out if this was a serious issue or not). With a bit of luck, BMW will eventually realise there is a lot of demand for this conversion and bring out an aftermarket solution. The 330d has a particle filter and twin chrome tips as standard.

Thanks for your reply!
I was to my dealer yesterday and I asked him about the exhaust pipe. He will check if this will have an impact on the waranty if they cut the downturned part and plug a tip at the end. My dealer should come back to me begining of next week with his findings... I hope he will have good news. I will let you know. Other good news is that my car will be ready in advance I can take it the 3rd of July 8 more days to wait and then

It probably won't affect the warranty, but it will be a problem when the time comes for the contrôle technique (if you still have the car then).

hi . i had the same keeness as yourself to change that UGLY stock 320i oval pipe, even after i put chrome tips on it. i chose the cheapest option. i cut the rear pipe and soldered a y connector -aftermarket to get the twin look. This is purely cosmetic , but looks great. will be getting my m rear apron and diffuser soon to complete my rear look with ACS boot lid spoiler and kerscher front bumper

Thanks for the pictures
This looks good, I think i will do something similar. Do you remember what was the size of the inlet of the exhaust tip you did use? I have found some tips that accept up to 63mm: http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?a=...TIP&p=28FT7124 I think those are the same kinds of tips that frank the rabbit is looking for as well. This is about 2,5 inches, do you think this could fit on the e90 exhaust? I believe if we cut the very end of the exhaust the 320d and the 320i got the same diameter Thanks again for the pictures and your advice, I come back to you whan I got news from the dealer. About the "controle technique" I think I will sell the car before 4 years anyway so it should not be an issue and if I keep it longer then I will have time to find a solution!
