can gesture control be retrofit or VO coded?

Located a near perfect build at a dealer, except the car doesn't have gesture control. can it be retrofit and if so what's involved?

Anything can be retrofitted; only limitation is wallet and skillsets.

It cannot simply be VO coded as hardware is required.

Thanks. No time to deal with hardware retrofits on a lease car. I'll stop by dealer and look at another car that has gesture control and see how important it is to me. I've already watched the YouTube videos and I'm not even sure I care about this option. My take on it is it's something I'd probably use for the first few weeks then likely not bother with after. My Galaxy S8 has several gestures and I never use them, even though I know how to....

my forthcoming car will have it but I am simply not interested at all. if it can be disabled I will do that , seems gimicky to me but that is just my opinion.
must admit I assumed the hardware would be there and that it just needed to be enabled- where are the sensors ? near the screen or in the roof?

Located on the roof where the lights are.

You can turn off in IDrive settings.

I'd suggest trying it before dismissing it altogether.
I too thought it was gimmicky at first blush, but I've gotten quite fond of it - it's an interesting and fun workflow

Gesture control is terrible. You can have mine.

It's not terrible. Good for controlling music. What else can it do?

You can assign a custom gesture - I use mine to mute audio.
Select destination from a list by pointing to it.
Dismissing calls and some screens by waving your hand.

And if you have surround view (I don't), there's a gesture with which you can move the view about.

If the car is otherwise perfectly equipped, go for it. The novelty of gesture control will quickly fade. For me it was a couple of weeks. I use it occasionally when I have someone new in the car. Flexing as my daughter would say.

Our genius at PCD said to use the "three stooges eye poke" to mute and umute music.

You just need new FZD module with gesture option. Thats it. Easy retrofit.
