Looking for input on E60 M5 2007

Wasn't looking to upgrade, but came across a M5 and it got me thinking: it has 120k miles, needs nothing, black on black with aluminum trim, M5, stock except has Meistershaft exhaust, 500hp stock (1/4 mile steady 12.5 sec stock from factory), 6MT! and of course naturally aspirated V10 that redlines at 8200 rpm Last of the Mohicans so to speak. Selling for $18k

What issues they have that I should check asap? Like we have gaskets, turbos, pump etc.

P.S. I can't post it in 5 forum hence posting here, hoping folks here have experience and knowledge

Man, that's a tough one. It's pretty high mileage, but that S85 V10 is legendary. I would check the rod bearings to see if those have been done. A lot of E60 M5/ E63 M6 owners on Instagram seem to get those done at around the 100k mark as preventative maintenance. I'm not sure if it's as big an issue as in the E90 M3 but they definitely do it.

Also, get a Carfax on it. Scan for codes.

It's an awesome car OP, but be very careful. It could turn out to be a money pit if it wasn't properly maintained.

Thank you for advise, is it correct to assume that main issue is engine and specifically rod bearings? There's no turbo and suspension wise I haven't found any issues that are widespread. 6MT is also relatively issue free. So I'm assuming it's mainly engine condition I should be worry about?

M5Board.com is your friend, check there. I was in the same boat months ago but was turned away with all the known issues. Need to have a thorough PPI done and see if the rod bearings have been replaced. Throttle actuators are know to fail (has two of them IIRC). Spark plugs every 25k. 6MT>7spd DCT or whatever it is so that's a plus for you.

At that mileage, I would want service records. If none offer $16k and put that $2k for maintenance/rod bearings. Maybe one day I'll get one and give my e90 to my son when he starts driving in 5-6 years.

Remember, the most expensive BMW is the cheapest BMW. Doubly true for M cars.

You can get Blackstone labs to do an analysis, they'll tell you if the bearings are on the way.

I would test drive it for sure and see how it goes.
